QuoteRemember when it was AMA/CCS and WERA/F-USA?  ....    Until something changes we might as well argue who the fastest Super Modified Shovel Racer is.  Actually shovel racers get more press than we do.

OH MY GOD!!!  :o  Someone who actually makes sense. I need to go sit down now.

QuoteBrad Wilson you are the puddin' stick!
June 14/15 at Roebling was my first experience with the CCS transponder system. What a revalation -- they posted everyones lap times. Cuts out a lot of BS bragging. Many of us delighted in seeing the posted lap times of a wellknown WERA braggart who regularly posts claims to running 1:17's on his overbuilt Honda Hawk. We could not find our friend with any transponder lap times in the teens and it seems that a 4th race weekend novice was faster and winning some of the twins races overall.

Keep your eye on 17 year old James Chance out of Savannah Ga. A pure talent on a stock SV650.

i consistantly ran 1:19's all weekend on my hawk. i ran 26's on my new single project. i won 7 of the 8 races i competed in. my margin of victory was as much as 30 seconds in some of the races. the turnout was light so i had no reason to try to break any records. to appropriately reply to this thread... the last time i ran 17's was at a wera weekend were the competition was much greater. keep on going to he races and get some more experience, then maybe youll learn that the fastest racers dont have to go fast all the time to win. did you win 7 races that weekend? did you win even one race that weekend? did you even race that weekend? would you like for me to post the ccs time sheets showing my actuall times in the teens?

lightsmith made perfect sense and brought up some excellent points.  So lightsmith, or anyone else for that matter, how do we fix it?  I sure would like to look up on the cooldown lap at Gateway, Daytona, or Road America and see thousands of people cheering and waving!  Those empty stands don't really care how well we race.
The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"

I live in the major banking area of the country.  A friend came up to me at a party, he works at a MAJOR bank in marketting/promotions, and he says "So what's up with you racers?  How come we can't get what we need when we're trying to help you?  How come the major organization (AMA) that has the dates/events/teams doesn't care about expanding the fan base?  How come the eager  guys (F-USA) can't put a race on TV?"  I told him about the Pocono F-USA a couple of years ago that was poorly produced (a lot happened but only the top 4 bikes got any coverage), but still beat the competing IRL or CART race for viewership.  Basically I said that it's possible (without the AMA) but hasn't really been done right yet.  The XSBA crowd also wants to grow their base.   They are actually more mainstream in that their sport comes from the streetsquid drag race types whose numbers dwarf ours.  There is actually  a large number of outside-the-industry (roadracing) groups who see a potential, but don't know how to tap into it.  Unless The RRW/Ulrich  wing of the AMA makes serious changes now, the AMA should be marginalised.  We need Clear Channel to see us as more than a writeoff and commit to full season of above average TV coverage.    We need spectators at the track.  Why not combine other events to attract non-riders like a car show or MX stunt jumping.  What other areas does Clear Channel  control that would also benifit? How about daytime outdoors concerts? Why aren't the people in charge thinking beyond our paltry fan/enthusiast base?  We all now that roadracing is a hell of a lot more interesting than (name your average bore-ass sport here).

Hell, the cheerleading and dance championships are broadcast on ESPN fercrissake. Of course, racers aren't wearing skin tight outfits with sequins and feathers. Seriously, I know it takes alot more to get this thing televised, but that's a whole different debate. No, everyone in the indusrty needs to understand that we all want the same result, quality competition in a receptive business environment.

Hey, I kinda like the cheerleading stuff ;D
We could do without GOLF, POKER, BILLIARDS, LUMBERJACKING, FISHING,8 replays of every SPORTSCENTER, and BASEBALL.  Kinda funny that ClearChannel own's about 80% of all TV/radio, and can't see the benifit of advertizing for their own series.  Seem's like it might be helpful, sponsorship wise anyway to let people know about their events ::)

More excellent feedback on this subject.  Everyone agrees that the potential of our sport is not being exploited.  How do we impress Clearchannel, ESPN, or whoever else that we need to be thrust into the public eye?  Discussing it here is a good start, but not the solution.  Where do we go from here?

Isn't that being coverd by Discovery or TLC? Maybe that's thw angle that could get some results, there's Monster Garage, Monster House and American Chopper. What is the production budget for those shows? We could do Awesome Racing, get a moderate budget, and see what kind of response a show like that would generate.

Yeah, but one of them is covering the entire poker tour this year.  It's on once a week...I think it's TLC.
