Quoteplease remove the entire post because now its what you said and not what i said. you took out the most important part of what i said........the point of the post itself. what is this place - some kind of church? for gods sake you can say ass on television.

Matt:

If you wish to remove your post, you can do so by clicking on the "Remove" link on the top right of your post.

I removed one sentence in your post who's only purpose was to incite a reaction.  It was not necessary to make a point.

No, this is not church, and I really don't care what you can and cannot say on TV.  I do however care for everyone on this board and expect that all, no matter who you are, are treated with repect.

Super Dave, you are right on the money!

I like the idea of track days for licensed racers only now and then.  it provides some incentive for track riders to race with us and bring our entries and exposure up.  Just an idea.

Racing should be exciting and it should have personalities.  Again, I'm not there to see a Suzuki GSXR1000, I wanna see Maldin ride the wheels off it.  That kind of stuff will attract people.[/quote]

Agreed, but if you didn't have an interest in football, would a guy scoreing 50 touchdowns in a game make you watch, not me.  A couple years ago 2 baseball players crushed every record for hits ever, I just didn't care.  Maybee I am wrong(not the first time ;D), but I think that people who never get interested in racing, or real performance of motorcyles will NEVER watch racing.  Even though we all can't live without it.

The big problem with motorcycle racing is that in order to enjoy it on TV, you gotta see it in person first.  It's alot like NHL hockey.  Sucks on TV until you've been there.  then it's awesome!  Motorcycle road racing has a unique sound, smell, sense of danger and excitement, and feel that is different from all other motorsports.  We gotta figure out how to put butts in the stands.  I just don'e know how to do it.  I guess I do my part...I've brought several new people the the races this year, and almost all of them have become enthusiasts.

That's why we need the bait-and-switch.  Bring unwitting people to the track for a custom car show or something during a race weekend.  A bunch of them would never get around to even looking at the cars because of all the action they'd see on the track.  Convincing people to travel and pay to see something they can't even imagine is nearly impossible.  Once you've seen it, you want more.  We could do it without going to Clear Channel too by having the tracks renting space to the other eventers.  A car show would have its own PR work being done.  There's plenty of room at every track I've been to.

I think just spreading the word about racing and track days helps. I try to talk everyone I know into buying a sportbike. When I succeed I then start working on them to take an MSF course, and then to come do a track day with me. I have gotten several people out there who otherwise wouldn't do track days and probably wouldn't even ride. And for those who will never race, well, they have kids who see their dad out there on the bike and immediately get sucked into watching the races. It won't help us out that much, but if done enough then by the time those kids get old enough to race maybe the fan base will be bigger.

Besides, I figure doing something, anything, is better than doing nothing and just complaining about how it sucks.

BTW, if you post to other groups then invite some of those people out to help you in the pits (even if you may not need it). I actually needed it this past weekend, but I managed to get 3 guys out to help me. 1 of them had never been to a race or a track day but is now really looking forward to at least doing a track day. Hopefully things will take off from there and we will have another convert...

I hate baseball and basketball.  But, if there was a game with Michael Jordan in it, I would take some time out to watch him.  I can understand that he has an art about him that others do not, and I could appreciate it.

Back to personalities...  Is there anyone that would NOT recognize "King" Richard Petty?  NASCAR does a great job promoting personalities.  I'd bet know that racers I know missed Freddy Spencer and Kevin Schwantz at Road America.

Motorcycle Road Racing IS exciting to watch.  Speedvision has finally stopped filming the bikes like NASCAR where they pan the bikes the same size in the frame;  now they let the bikes come close and get full frame.  This gives you an opportunity to see little bits and pieces of the bike, and especially the rider, close up.  This is exciting stuff!  But the riders are mortal.  Not enough is done.

That camera view from the curb in T1 at BIR was AWESOME! :D  I like the car show idea.  There is room for a decent sized one at Moroso at the back side of the pits.  Maybe I'll talk to Henry about trying that later this year or early next year.  Hmmm.....

Some of the coolest things I have been in were:

A vintage airplane fly in along with a vintage car race and vintage motorcycle race.  I like planes.  And I can appreciate a '70 Boss 302 Mustang at speed along with little Mini Coopers.

Races through the streets of Steamboat Springs, CO and Park City, UT.  Steamboat had the races for probably twenty years.  Big event.  Too much construction so, it got moved to Utah.  People could watch while grilling out in the back yard of some condominums while I'm flying down some sweeping turns flat out in fifth going curb to curb on a CB400F.  It is a bit dangerous, but you don't ride it like your local race track.

There was always talk about having a night race at Gateway International Raceway.  I still think it would be a cool idea.
