Yeah, Dave... Monster.. LOL... 996RS....

Eric, That is what they told us, but we have a 2003 ZX6RR for a race bike, and it just isnt worth buying and building a race bike for just two races in the AM classes... But thanks for the pointer....

Will:

Months ago folks pointed out to me various posts you have made to this board directed at me without mentioning my name. Discussing the number of classes I race and my performance index and my buying a championship. And this thread regarding the rule violation and rumors that it was me who "turned Tristian in." I have decided not to respond all season to such posts. It is just not my nature. I ride my bike and don't say much. But I decided to address you here after all.

I found out about this thred last week and contacted CCS and asked them to let Tristian finish his final 2 rounds on his 600. I have always had nothing but respect for you, Daniel, and Tristian, who I have referred to all season as "the Kid." I have nothing but respect for his talent and feel lucky to be where I am considering his amazing improvements this season. Someday, when he is a star, I will be able to say I battled for an amateur championship with him.

I decided to race a lot of classes early in the season to get as much experience my first year ever racing a motorcycle. At 39, I don't aspire to be an AMA star. I will turn 40 the weekend of Streets and hope to race Formula 40. My early season results were good and once I took the overall points lead, I decided to keep doing a lot a classes to keep it. This is the Brian Long strategy after all. I have not heard people complain about his winning 4 overall championships running 14 races a weekend. I run 10 races. Have been doing so since the 3rd round. It has not been easy.

I crashed badly at the 2nd Arizona round, and totaled my 02 R6 in the first Vegas round. This left me missing a 1.5 rounds and running a 60 hp bike for 2 rounds. My results during that time took my performance index from the 700s to below 500. Then I got a better bike and improved somewhat. When you run 10 races a weekend, it is a little hard to keep a high performance index.

Tristian can run 10 races and win. He really has little competition in most races (save for the likes of Simon, Doug, Brian Hall, Dave etc). But my efforts have also put me in the lead in 6 classes. I don't discuss my efforts, I just ride. I have ended up where I am despite missing many races due to crashes or finishing poorly due to a weak bike. But I have just continued to race. Where I am now is a product of those efforts. That is racing.

If they won't let Tristian run his 600, then you guys should run the SV650 you said you are getting. Don't just give in. At both Firebird and Streets, an SV650 is probably a better bike than a 600 anyway. Those are not horsepower tracks. They are technical. And you can race in 13 classes. I will be there to race as I have all season. I hope Tristain will be there too. He is a good kid with buckets of talent, I am am privilaged to have raced with him. If he takes the title from me, then thats racing.

The title is based on points. I did not write the rule book. I have done 87 races this season. It has been a long season. Quite frankly if the title were based on performance index or pure talent, I think Brian Hall would have the monopoly on the title and Tristian would be his closest competition. But it is based on points. I don't pretend to have the talent of many guys I race with. But on days when my bike is running good and I in in my zone, I don't do so bad.

This is the only title I may ever hope to win, but I don't want to win it any other way than the way I have been doing so all year, showing up and racing and doing my best, regardless of bad luck, bad bikes, crashes, weather, or anything else. I hope to see you guys at the rest of the races. Watching Tristian ride has been a treat. I plan to follow his career for a long time and will root for him as he rises to the top.

It is however my nature to respond to the insinuations and accusations that have been made via this board and in person, to and about my team.  It has been suggested that the response that I desire is, ahem, not condusive to sportsman like conduct so I have refrained.  But, I will say,

Yeah....everything that he said, ditto that from me.

John,

There has never been any sort of direct attack on you, nor one implied. I have seen a flaw in the points system from the get go, and that is why I had suggested, and asked for a rules change several times. This wont happen for obvious reasons.

I never implied who contacted CCS and asked for Tristan's points to be removed, I have no idea, and dont make it a habit of jumping to conclusions. I do think it was a BS thing to do, but rules are rules.

You dont know me very well, but I will tell you that im not a person to make "veiled" comments. I say whats on my mind, and I really dont give a crap what anyone thinks about what I say. My opinion is mine, and if you dont agree with it, tough sh1t. Its a good and bad thing, but if I knew that you called and complained, you would have seen a big post saying "John quit being a crybaby". didnt see that one did ya? :)

I have tried from the get go to be nice and outgoing towards you, and your team and team-mates, I cant think of a time when I have been less than. Have I?

We never set out to win a championship, nor to win a race, just to get Tristans feet wet in racing. Hell, we made him run the Sportsman classes for the first 4 rounds so he could ease into it. You have to understand the Am championship really isnt that big of a deal for Tristan or for any of us. Tristan being safe, and continuing to learn is the important part. One year does not a racer make.

We are going to test an SV, and maybe build one for next year, but His heart is in riding a 600, and the faster it is the better. Getting on an SV or such is kinda a step backwards when the AMA is running 1000cc superbikes.

If you say you didnt file the complaint with CCS then I believe you, It really doesnt matter who did, or even that it was filed. The rules are the rules, and so be it. I do appreciate your call to CCS asking that Tristan be allowed to continue. Hell I think that the Pac region is the only one that is actually being contested in the whole damn series. If Tristan had his 600, you two would be in 10 races together, and the championship would literally come down to the last race of the day sort of thing. How cool would that have been?

I guess the thing I am having the hardest time with is the motivation to call and complain about Tristan. I mean, I could see it if was riding out of control, or dangerous, but to ask that all his points are taken away, and that he not be allowed to race his 600. I dont get it. Its been no secret hes a kid, everyone knows, someone was holding it as their "secret weapon" but to what end I dont know? His age doesnt take away his wins, ya know? Hell I think you know that as well as anyone. Im NOT saying its you dude, I just dont get the motivation. Why try to derail an enthusiastic kid with some talent that is even a good student? Thats the part that bugs me, not the points, not the riding, and not the championship.

I will be seeing you on Monday at the Streets. I cant reccomend strongly enough that you follow in Simons footsteps and book some time with Doug Polen for one on one instruction, it will teach you more than you could even imagine.

No hard feelings here, and dude, its just racing, its supposed to be FUN.

Amber, in not sure fo what you mean, read whatever into what I have said you like, but if meant John, I would have said John. That simple.

That was well stated John, but what really caught my attention was....

Hey, I resemble that remark!

For what it's worth, NO ONE called in and asked for anyone's points to be taken away, nor for anyone's finishes to be disqualified.
