I was going to place a poll here, but the poll function seems to be missing in the latest conversion..

It seems like this year, everyone went out and bought these 5500+ watt construction site generators that are loud enough to wake the dead.

In the heat, people have been leaving them run overnight to run their AC units, etc.  Most of the time they don't bother me as now I'm in the RV and have my own QUIET diesel generator running air conditioners so I can't really hear them.  However, they get pretty irritating during the early evening, and I know they bug people who end up tenting within a few hundred feet of them.

I don't mind and I'm not talking about campsite-rated gensets (quiet honda/yamaha's, etc), just the noisy ones (and I'm sure you know what I'm talking about)

So...  Should CCS have a rule of "no non-campsite rated noise level generators allowed running between 10:00pm and 6:00am"?  Or should this be left to the track, or what?

My personal take would be that any genset +65dB at 7 meters cannot be run between the hours of 10:00pm and 6:00am.

Or am I just being petty?

Your just being petty. ;D

BTW did anyone else hear that next year large campers/trailers/RV's/semis will have to paddock in the area right after the main gate?

I went and purchased 2 Honda EU2000i's w/ Parallel Cable so I can have quite power for my AC/Tirewarmers etc.

It is toally pointless during the day becuase even 1 coleman 6500 100 Feet away drowns out the sound of my 2 Honda's...

At night is where they are nice, they make no noise past about 20 Feet...So I can run all night w/o any issues if I want...

I think a rule would be a great idea....

Didn't hear it yet, but figured it would be coming.  There are a LOT of big rigs showing up, and space is getting increasingly tight.

The rule that had me confused was the "no race engines before Group 1 1st call" On Sunday.

This was fine for those of us that were there and got through tech on Saturday, but what about those who only come for the sprints?

I know the signage at the track says "no race engines before 7:00am" and I can understand the concerns of those living near the track, but it seems to me that the event/tech schedule shouldn't be in direct conflict with a track rule.  One or the other should be changed.

I also wonder about the "no pit-bikes more than 1/2 hour after the race" rule.  Is a street-legal, licensed scooter considered a pit bike?  I was considering getting a Zuma or Ruckus scooter for pit use next season, but may change my mind if I can't use it at all in the evenings.  I know the "fiddys" have caused some problems with running unauthorized beat laps and various other offenses which I'm sure has resulted in the crackdown, but shouldn't there be a place for responsible evening scooter use?  Another case where a noise limit wouldn't seem unreasonable.

The problem with "responsible" evening scooter use is defining and enforcing "responsible".

Far too many people drink and get carried away.  I know it's not everyone, but the few have spoiled it.  IMHO, the 'no motorized pitbikes 30 mins after the final race' is a good call.  But that's just my opinion.

The other way around it would be to actually enforce some rules.  IMHO, when a person blatantly violates a rule (i.e., running a pitbike on the track in a race manner), that person should be removed from the track and/or fined HEAVILY (like $500).  There's just no excuse for it.

But start a new thread for that Mr. Threadjacker! LOL..  back to the genny talk.

What generator? I still have yet to get one. ;D Hell I dont even use tire warmers.

Ridge, the sign in front says 8am, not 7am.  ;D
But for purposes of a licensed scooter being classed as a pit bike, my take is that unless you could ride it to the track (being in the country its not legal on highways), it would be a pit bike by tracks def.

Actually it would be nice if they (CCS) would actually enforce the competitor numbers on the pitbike rule.

You only need those if you actually were racing ;)

Actually, I don't have a problem with this, but not all of us can afford 1 let alone 2 EU2000's  ::)

I can't quantify 65DB @ 7 meters (I know what 104 DB on 1 watt sounds like - College years with Cerwin Vegas! ;))

As long as it doesn't rule out everyone but the Honda's / Yamaha's

Jeff

the 65dB @7M was pulled out of my backside.  The quiet hondas are in the low 50's.  60 is normal human conversation.

65db at 7M would shut down most generators.  But the thing is, it's ONLY a 10P-6A rule.  During the day, I don't really care if you run your mega-watt craftsman genny.
