Thinking about getting EBC Rotors & pads for my F3.  Anyone have good / bad things to say about them?

I used EBC pads in my FZR and did real well in braking.  I used to have a Honda Silverwing (GL500), I bought a set for it and had to file the side to make them fit...  they are British after all  :-/  This was a while ago also, 1996ish

stock rotors with the ebc HH pads last year.  Seem to last 4 or 5 weekends.

Stock rotors and Vesrah pads, turned to mush after 1 weekend (i was back to squeezing the brake lever as hard as EBC's) .  and fades real bad after 3 weekends.

Now im going to try Stock rotors and EBC "Kit" pads.

Mush on Vesrah's...

Ok, here's the deal...

I've been doing this, well, forever.  My right arm is trashed, so I'm sensative to pads.

What Vesrah's were you using?

I've used Vesrah RJL's for a good long time.  Eventually, the heat from the braking force causes the steel backing plate to warp.  So, when they get mushy, that's what you've got...your initial pull is flattening out the warped backing plate.

So, then the pad should be replaced.

The bonus part about Vesrah's is that they require NO bed in.  RACE.  So, you don't have to go through a specific process of bed in on the pads.  If you race CCS, can you afford wasting a whole practice session on Sunday AM bedding in pads?

Vesrah now has Super RJL pads.

So, what's so different?

The compound is a bit different.  I like the feel.  Again, a nice easy pull that doesn't hurt my arm.  That's really important for me.

Next, the backing plates are laser cut rather than being pressed, so they don't have the fatigue in manufacturing that the RJL's had (pressed) so they don't have that warping problem.

As a result, they last a whole lot longer.  I mean a really, really long time.  They cost more, but they last a lot longer, period.

And Vesrah is offering contingency this year too.

Pierre, I'd use the stock rotors with Vesrah pads.  I use stock rotors.  I have forever.  I'd rather have good brakes and buy more Michelin tires.

agreed.  I used to use the RJLs and change em every 2nd weekend cuz they wouldn't last long.

When the SRJLs came out, Mark J hooked me up with a set and I was hooked.

The SRJLs last a LOT longer and I personally love Vesrah for their zero bed time requirement and a fantastic 'feel'.

Thingy

I agree.  Use Vesrah pads.  (I have never had RJLs warp the backing plate on me, but have seen it happen, with all brands.  Maybe I don't brake hard enough.)  You can use them on any rotor.

One warning if you decide to go with EBC.  Do NOT use EBC rotors with EBC HH 'Kit' pads.  The kit pads will destroy your nice expensive rotors.  (There is no paperwork saying not to do this.  But, if you call EBC, they will tell you.)

Braking is overrated ;)
set the bike up better and don't slow down as much. ;D

Guess that's why you go slower than I.

Anybody have a warpage problem with EBC HH's? My brakes are real mushy right now and the pad backing plates are discolored, like they've taken a lot of heat. Reading this, it just occured to me that maybe they are warped. Be easy to find out for sure, I suppose...

thanks all,

All pads get a lot of heat.  I've used DP Pads.  I liked them to in that there was no bed in process and they had easy lever effort.  Similar effect though...eventually, heat would get to them.  Lots of pad material left, but the brakes wouldn't work unless I could use a whole hand.  The brakes would cool while I was bleeding them, and the pads would return to a somewhat flat shape...give it a good feel...for a lap or three, then back to fading.

pulled my pads today - no warpage. Gave the brakes a proper flush and now they're back where they should be.
