When we were racing an F3, when they were new and no one new anything about them except the factory guys- I talked to a factory support rider (to remain  unnamed but is a factory rider now) about their set up and if Honda was giving him any secrets.  Surprisingly, he pointed out he was using stock pads and rotors!  He was even running EBC stickers.  His reasoning (or Honda's for that matter) was that they wore the best, and when kept clean and in good condition did not fade or warp too badly. Note, the master cylinder was not stock and may have had a larger bore to improve feel etc..  With all the "new" compounds and neat color codes, things may be different today for an F3, but I really to this day thought that was interesting and wonder how that stacks up to today's machines.

Very common.  At that level, the stickers only tell you where the money comes from.

Stock pads are good.

As for checking pads cold for warpage...they are cold.  When they get warm, they'll pop.  Maybe the pads you're using are new enough, maybe they don't have the friction that some pads have at lower lever pressures to give more braking force with less effort...that will generate more heat.  Lots of variables.

Stock pads on a Honda aren't bad, but they wear FAST...  Like 300 miles type fast...  I went through a set, like down to the metal in 1 weekend.

I've run EBC-HH-KIT pads forever with stock rotors.  I like the feel, price and life of them.  I've never had a problem with them, and there is nothing special to bedding them in.  A couple of laps with progressive braking during practice (on/off/on/off) and you're golden.

I'd like to try some SRJL's, but when I can get the HH-kit's for $40/set (yeah, 2 cards) it's really attractive.

I'd also like to try some of the Carbone Lorraine (sp?) pads.  I hear they're incredible, but expensive as well...  Perhaps this year will be the year for a pad change...  (that just sounds gross  :P )

Anyone considering the Ferodo brand.  On my lw bikes, the CP911 (organic) provided excellent braking.  The XR Sinter Grip pads are supposed to be even better.  Not sure of the specific bed-in time, but my teammate  on an Aprilia Mille seemed to like them after they bedded in.  He also used the CP911 last year.  We'll keep you informed of how things go this season.

My philosophy, listen to folks, but also don't be afraid to try things out for yourself.  This is club racing, no one is really getting paid to use any of these parts, so find something you like, see if the company will work with you to provide you with the best pads that meet your increase demands and go from there.

And keep a brake diary ...

anyone know where I can buy the SRJL's on-line?

I ran some 911*'s once.  They worked fairly well (as good as the EBCs, but not as good as the Vesrah RJLs), but I went through an entire set in one weekend at Road America. :o

QuoteI agree.  Use Vesrah pads.  (I have never had RJLs warp the backing plate on me, but have seen it happen, with all brands.  Maybe I don't brake hard enough.)  You can use them on any rotor.

One warning if you decide to go with EBC.  Do NOT use EBC rotors with EBC HH 'Kit' pads.  The kit pads will destroy your nice expensive rotors.  (There is no paperwork saying not to do this.  But, if you call EBC, they will tell you.)
I have been using the kit pads and SS EBC rotors for all last season an one weekend this year and the rotors are fine, no wear whatso ever. I won 2 class championships and 2nd in another.  Where did you hear this, EBC? I read where some of the factory SS teams are running the same combo in a  RRW article last year and it was the best set up, better than the Hh EBC pads pads.
