OK.  My bike is done. I took  it for a test spin on the road.  It was great but   The DAM THING WILL NOT SHIFT INTO 3rd gear or higher  >:( >:( >:(
the geraing was stock with stock chain.

I do have a 520 chain, and gears that I can put on.

WHAT DO I DO ?????? Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

EX#996

I ran down by Paul and told him...  (he said he would be panicing too!)   :o

Couple of questions:

Does first and second (up and down) work OK?

Did you have motor work done?

Is this that deal with the bolt backing out of the clutch area?

I don't know.  I did not look at the clutch yet.  all I did in that area was change the case cover.  I'm trying to stay calm but its not working.

I don't think that was a problem with the 2002s.

Silly, but is the cluth adjustment OK? GSXRs have cables, right?

I'd put it on a rear stand, not running, and see if I could go through the gears by hand. Move the bike tire a bit, see if you can feel something binding. Rule out an external problem.

a friend had a similar problem with another type of racebike.  Problem was only solved when cracking the cases open finding broken gears and some pieces for the offending gear.

Sorry to hear your problem, but I think its gonna require a teardown.

My cable is new, and I when on the stand it did not go through the gears. It went to 2nd and thats it.

clutch problem can cause non-shifting or difficult shifting.

how about the history of the bike? was it working previously?

Picked it up in Dec salvage title with 6K miles cheep.  Rode it for a block to load it and take it home.  Been working on it all winter to ge tit ready. Finished it and said test time.  this was the first chance I got to play. I missed the TMP vir day beacuse I was not done.
