I just read on RRW that Woody Deatherage broke 3 vertebre in his back when he hit an UNPROTECTED CONCRETE FUCKING WALL at Road Atlanta this weekend.  That track needs to have a tactical nuke dropped right in the center of it.  This pisses me off big time.  That track is an unsafe piece of shit.  Concrete walls have no place at a motorcycle track, but not even bothering to put haybales there (how about some airfence?) is downright criminal.  Steve Rapp's bike proved that area was an impact zone the day before when it ghost rode into the same wall and caught fire (apparently quite spectacularly) after Rapp fell off.  Didn't that make anyone consider some type of impact protection?! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

you are right..concrete walls have no place at all in motorcycle racing. Air fences should be mandatory like the saftey wire on a bike is to protect the riders..in fact, there is probably less of a chance of a oil plug coming out than an unfortunate rider striking a wall.  Most tracks are designed for cages with little thought to the cycles..Barber is an apparent exception from what I read.

Air fences are $10,000 a section and can be moved and used at any CCS track event.  I believe one of the CCS regions purchased a section or sections of air fence to be used at they're races.  I think you can start an Air Fence fund in your region and put it wherever you want.  It sure feels nice entering the banking at Daytona know at least there is an airfence against the wall.

Your probably right, I'm just going of a conversation I had a couple of months ago.  I do know that the sections can be moved from track to track.

we at team pro-motion have 3 sections for our track days. We set it up prior to riders meeting and take it down at the end of the day. Takes about 3-4 guys to set it up and pack it up. The hardest part is to transport it and taking it down if you have more than a few sections (space and time).

I have seen riders slide under the air fence and still strike the wall the airfence is supost to be covering. :'( Has anyone addressed this issue with some sort of way to keep the thing down so no one can slide under it?? >:( I agree its better than nothing or hay bails but it does seem to have that one flaw. Im just glad I dont have to race at any tracks that have walls close to the track. If there were any in my region I wouldnt race at those tracks. Im out there to have fun, racing is not my job so I dont have to race if I dont want to like some of the pros. :o

Riders sliding under air fence means the air fence was not properly installed, at least according to officials at the race events where that has happened.  Apparently, it's a pain to properly tie them down, so in some cases people don't do it  >:(

Gingerman last week had 1 corner that could use air fence but it was no where to be seen.  I know at Gateway we use it for races and I thought much of it was CCS's, I wonder where that was last weekend?

BTW, has everyone donated to one of the funds that gets air fence out there?

I just read on roadracingworld.com that Deatherage feels his career is probably over :'(.  What a terrible experience to go through for him and his family/friends.  

You just want to go take it all back....

i know i have!

i think that is sad that an ama event left an uprotected area. shit, they dont even run at loudon anymore due to the walls. and fortunately we have quite a bit of air fence up there now.
