Yeah I guess I am one of those guys, except I was pitted in my area before anyone else on Friday. I usually tell everyone before they pull in and get their stuff out that I'm that guy with "that generator" and park at your own risk.  I have 100' ext cords that I use, I park the thing as far away as possible and always let anyone who needs to plug into go ahead. Funny thing it's powered by a Honda engine. Racing is done on a budget by most people and I don't think I'm too far off the mark by saying not everyone can afford your recommendations for a generator. I have a A/C & everything else in trailer plus 4 sets of warmers, I'm not going out to buy a EU6500 or two EU3000's to make you happy. You want me to get a quiter generator then buy me one because I'm sure as sh*t not going to anytime soon. I do agree that if you know you have one of the noiser generators you should try your best to limit the decibel noise as much as possible. This is always a interesting subject but I think this year if you can just make it to the track you should be happy. There was much more noise problems at the far end of the pits due to the drag racing  than the generators by the way.Flame on :pop:

Not blaming you, but I think I mentioned that I was there Friday night at 10:30p.m. to where you could drive a semi around the lot, planned my position by staging my trailer in line with the concession stand since my last PBIR weekends were divided down the middle to get thru the paddock.  I'm not here to tell what a budget someone should have, or what generator to buy.  My point was to have some consideration for your neighbor with your Hammer for a generator.  Oh, and one last thing.....did anyone think about how to park their stuff this weekend or what?  Ridiculous....I guess we have to get organized parking people to guide us now.  Daytona doesn't even have this problem.

You should be complaining about those tracks that are too cheap to provide power but charge a premium to enter.

I agree.. it was much cheaper and quieter without tire warmers..

Has anyone ever tried putting a bigger muffler on a loud generator?  I've found instructiuons to do it on the web, but does it really work?

Just asking cause I need more power and have been searching Tracktor Supply, Harbor Freight and Home depot for the cheapest power I can find.

If PBIR got a better PA system, then the sounds of the generators would not be so bad...I missed third call on one race because we couldn't hear anything at all from our tent...nothing against PBIR, but I can't wait to get to Homestead, at least they have power and garages...and a PA system that works!!!

P.S. Given all the money that PBIR spent on getting the track re-done, they could have spared a few dollars for some electricity, even if it was just poles with power outlets...

screw the electricity... they need to spend money on their own set of airfences. what do we do to get this done. This is an actual question, not a smartass sarcastic question, where the fuck are the airfences out there? I know it's hard to get them due to money and they need donations but how does it work on deciding which tracks to put them at, what weekends, etc. The FL schedule is there the most out of the year too.

Back to the electricity, that would be nice.

I did. It helped, but nothing like a quiet Yamaha or Honda. Problem is much of the noise is not from the exhaust, but from the engine itself. The quiet generators are essentially foam lined housings to stop much of the sound from the engine. Oh, make sure you mount any support brackets to the engine, not the generator frame. The engine is (usually) rubber mounted to the frame. The muffler will be trying to shake with the engine, any support mounted to the frame will not be free to move with the muffler, it will fail relatively quickly.

So, in addition to a muffler, you would need to make some sort of housing for the generator to absorb noise, but still provide enough ventilation so the generator does not over heat.

Oh, and who was Josh Hayes there with/for? Did anyone see him driving that XL monster RV/Truck? I gotta get one of those, so I can store my beatup r6 in. :)

Probably his wife. Melissa in USGPRU.

Basically an open top box thats 6" taller probably would help kill some of the sound from travellign across the ground.

Devin,

PBIR did purchase the safety fencing that is out there, mainly prompted by our own Sean D. raising money for the fund. Thanks again Sean. What we have there is a track that is inherently with walls that wouldn't have been an impact area without the situation that happened. If you noticed at the rider's meeting Henry is always asking for input from the riders about where to place the safety fencing. There is only so much of it to go around.

While we're on the subject of noise, if you start your bike and then blip the throttle for 2 sepereate 20 minute sessions before 6am next year, I'm going to throw a full, unopened can of soda at you and then spray paint a unicorn on your pretty racebike.
