Summit PIT
« on: May 28, 2008, 03:34:42 pm »
Can someone please clarify for me the "rules" for the vendors parking? For as long as I have been doing this which is a while, the tire vendors park over by the front straight. Now the past two weekends at summit one vendor opened up shop right in the middle of the pits wtf is up with that? Space is limited there as well as electricity why is a vendor over where everyone pits?

if he is paying the vendor fee then he gets a reserved spot and a couple of free arm bands for the weekend. could he be sneaking in as a racer and therefore not getting in on the prime locations for pit access? I'm not sure who this was btw ... just offering up an idea since we checked into the vendor package last year. if you only need a couple 2 or 3 armbands it might be cheaper not to pay the fees, especially since once you get in there is a good chance that you can bum power from someone else in the box or just plug in. we started using our generator for just that reason. we got tired of paying for the box and having someone else plugging in w/o even asking.

so you are speaking of  tire vendor taking up about 4 to 6 spots in the pits?
he shouldn't be there he should be over by the fence with the other tire vendors
as far as rules of where they should be there probably isn't any but should be
maybe send an email to CCS asking them to have vendors in a certain place to leave room for the competitors.

At Summit if you are a vender you pay for a certain spot and it is roped/taped off usually with you name on it prior to the event. It is your reserved spot, and will alwasys (or should always) be the same spot.  If someone is in your spot they will be asked nicely to move.

It is set up that way so you can find them pretty easy without having to look all over to find them.

Ok so i guess before I jump the gun here was the location of the tire vendor  that was not in the "normal" spot given that location as their dedicated vendor spot?

Couldn't tell you if they were or not. I would guess so, maybe they were late to sign up as a vendor for this round etc.. and they were put there.

Or maybe they got there late and set up were they could find room. It was a crazy weekend for sure. I can't ever think of a time when I have seem the pits as full. There were people camping/pitting in the woods..

I would assume that it wouldnt be there 'normal' spot and maybe it was a last second type thing. I dont even know who/where you are talking about.. I didnt wander the pits much. Our pit is right next to Registration, the bathrooms, and Dunlop, and Rachel keeps us from starving. No need to go too far.. LOL

Vender's locations are controlled by Summit Point's agency.  If you noticed the sign outside of the men's facility, it gave contact information.

Historically, vendors have setup along the cold pit.  The only issue with it is that there is not enough power available for more than lighting, so all use generators.

It looked like the vendor in question had a sleeping rig built in to the rig.

Your comments, expressed kindly, would be better directed to Summit Point.

Oh trust me the tire vendor you speak of wa there early enough to be close to the other tire guys/vendors. I was there Thursday at around 3 or 4 pm and they got there soon after. There were hundreds of spots then. As many times as I have been to Summit I have never seen a vendor park by the treeline and take up 6 spots. I was parked across from them and I thought it was unusual as well.

That is the second weekend Pirelli has taken up so many spots. I was pitted accross from them ealier this month when apparently someone from the NESBA day removed the "reserved" tape. Then some CCS guys pulled in and took up the vacant sports when they left.

The Pirelli guys were pretty rude when 6 or so people didn't just up and move all their stuff when they showed up late friday afternoon/evening.

Not only would I prefer to see vendors on "vendors row" for ease of purchasing and finding products but I hate to see them take up such good spots.

I guess I'm in the minority on this one, but I kinda like having Pirelli closer to my pit.
Rich gave me some good advise on suspension and pressure changes based on tire wear I was seeing and it was great having access to that input without having to trek across the paddock.

I hear what you're saying about them taking up so much space, but considering how packed Summit was this past weekend, freeing up a few more paddock spaces would have had no effect on an unbelievably crowded paddock.
By comparison, Pirelli was set up in the exact same spot for the races May 3 - 4 and it was a non-issue - mainly due to the fact that there was probably 1000 less competitors there.

Summit Vending is controlled by the track. As a vendor you can request any spot you want in the pits when you pay your vending fee and they will rope it off ahead of time.  Yes traditionally the tire vendors have always been on the other side by pit lane, but there is only one 50 amp plug in the Summit Pits and that is why Rich chose that spot over there.
I have had people try to take a spot that I paid for and was roped off by the track. So I understand why he would be rude. There is no "vendor row" at summit.

and there you have it from someone in the know. he has been a vendor at summit for quite a while and is prolly on a first name basis with the track for getting his spot reserved.
