a slipper will allow you to shorten your braking distance by allowing you to get your downshifting done sooner and smoother. faster in = faster out. you may need to learn to use it but for me its as basic as stainless brake lines

And if you come in too hot its a way of slowing down with out coming in on your front wheel only or a locked rear end. It just makes my bike feel more consistant in every turn, I can always tell if im coming in too hot once I know the track.

I think a few guys have blown motors on downshifts now and then, the slipper could help you there as well.
