watching the US nationals drag race and the john force teem is looking at molding the foam part of the helmet to each of the drivers heads. well now there's an idea.

Helmsman

I've always assumed that that was all ready happening to the top riders/drivers?  Guess not.

It's pretty easy to do, really.

Is it something one can do easily?
The only thing I can think of is to remove the padding and spray in some expanding foam, wrap your head with cellophane, and put the helmet on and wait for it to cure.

Sounds stupid but, Is that how it's done???

Super Dave,

I found that picture of you and Scotty ready to get your helmets custom fitted.....

But who was the third guy?

Was it worth all this trouble?

they showed a three D  computer image on the monitor of one of the drivers heads then they took measurements and sent that info to a cnc mill that had a blank in it and machined it out. sounded complex  maybe one of the computer experts would know. anyway when someone gets killed in other sports there's a concerted effort to analyze and fix the problem with us it's he was a nice guy ,sorry about he's luck.like i said before the last jump in safety was the back brace. sure there's the air fence but when's the last time that's been at a club race. how about impact leathers made out of something other than leather.their are wealthy people in our sport but nobody has stepped like Force has and he's in a relatively safe sport

There's Air Fence at club races just about every weekend.

People have tried all sorts of high tech materials, cowhide still work far better.  There has been improvement in armor and other protective items almost yearly.

I'm guessing you haven't been doing this racing thing very long huh?

Blackhawk has it's own air fence.

Custom helmet...well, you can replace internal pieces to make it have a custom fit.  And you can do stuff to the interior beyond that.  I won't get into that too much, but you can press out "hot" spots.

Yeah, leather plain just works.

Seems like there are plenty of manufacturers that have tried to go to lighter leather with expected results.

I raced with leathers that only had a little foam in the elbows, knees, and hips.  Soon after, the impact pieces had a little plastic in them.  Was a refreshing way to fall down vs the old way.

I think boots have tried to approach the ankle issues.

I think that interior stitching on gloves is a must, but people seem to still buy gloves that don't have it in places where the threading will explode.  I don't know if the little knuckle things help or not.  I don't know if putting a piece of leather between the pinky and the ring finger works very well, but it's a nice idea.

I think as bodies in flight, there are issues that cannot be completely overcome.  No cages.

The hardest party about safety gear for motorcycles is finding the proper balance between comfort which allows the rider to be less likely to crash due to being able to move around better and react to things quicker and the inevitable crash that will happen sooner or later.

Right now I'm personally not liking the trend towards lighter leathers.  I'd hate to have to make rules about leather thickness but if too many explode in the future it will happen.

I'm also not sure that a custom molded helmet liner will do any better than the ability to change out pad sizes that the good helmets currently have.
