I worked breifly in the motorcyle racing feild in the early eightys ( we had TZ 750's)then went to autos IMSA then ARCA All Pro then drag racing I came back to bikes in 2001 but did not start racing sersioly till 06. I remember what the riders wore in the eightys yes our helmets and boots are a lot better but the leathers and gloves i'm not sure of.and I can't remeber one peice of air fence in the fla region. except maybe at homestead.i'm just saying that it seems that other sports address the safety issue a little more than we do. with that said I I love this sport will be back for daytona .

that's another Question since my old leathers look like a bear rug whats a good thickness of leather?

Super Dave

Good question.

I use Vanson.  I know they are thick and heavy.  I know they are also pretty choosey about the leather they use too.

I also know that at the bottom of my forearms, where you usually make really good contact with the ground, there are two to three layers of that heavy leather compared to just the two pieces sewn together.

But the leather thickness isn't everything either.  Too many stitches per inch can cause leather to perforate.

i'll check them out I do like the V zipper that my friend has on his vanson's says it helps with the junk collar bones. I also heard of impact shorts any ideas?

Super Dave

I've heard of impact shorts, but I don't know much about them.

The double V zipper is nice on the Vanson's.  The model is called Volante.  I've used a few sets of them, and they really help in getting in and out.  Better ventilation because you don't have the zipper in the middle taking up so much space.
