I was slow @ BHF this weekend partially because of stock gearing... I've ordered a 47 tooth sproket and have a 42 one for faster tracks.  What should I run for the next race at Auto S?  then BHF and Gingerman.  My bike is a 2000 (first gen) with only suspension and brake mods.

Thanks

Steve.

I run 14-44 at BHF, use the same gearing at gingerman and do not use 6th gear.  I have never rode at Autobon, but I think Ed uses BHF gearing there.

Hey Guy:  Thanks for the input... I actually already ordered a 47 sproket which with the 15 front should be close to the 14-44 combo.
On another topic, I think that you kind of stuffed me going into the carousel Sat.  You passed me on the inside (which was fine) but then more or less parked it right in front of me which really freaked me out as I had to swerve wide -luckily no one was over-taking us on the outside.  What happened??

Interesting race debut - gridded between the 1st & 2nd wave for the Formula 40 - and was left standing as both waves started around me.  Then to add insult to injury, I was meatballed for mis-gridding!  The second race (LW GT)was better although I really wasn't keeping up with the field at all.  Last two laps I was running out of energy...

Looking forward to Auto S. which I'm much more familiar with.

I don't realy recall what happened, but it surely was unintentional.  I don't like people doing that to me, and I try not to do it to others.  I am very sorry if I forced you to change your line.  I am still learning and somtimes, I just get it wrong.  Stop by some time and I'll buy you a beer or somthing else to your liking.

Hope the gears work out for you

I remember the incident now.  Totally my fault.  I misjudged your speed, and where I would pass you, subsiquently I went in too hot.  I would have appoligised to you at the track, but I did not see the number on your bike.  I figured that whom ever the victem was, would come to my pits and tell me what an ass I am.  But no one came, so I figured that the incident was not as bad as I had thought.  I am sorry about that manuver, I commited to passing you when I should have waited.  I am glad that nothing bad happend to you.

No problem... I'm learning too.  The pass was fine but pulling up freaked me out.  Don't think you were coming in too hot.  I was just slow, riding conservatively since I crashed that bike the last two days I was on it.  Turn 10 Grattan and 9 Auto S.  Took the SV to 4 & 6 in Skokie - hopefully it's something minor like mis-jetting, carb tuning although the bike has got 34K on it.  My lap times were 1:30 + which is disapointing since my last track day there (Sept 05) I was turning 1:23's consistently.  Paul On. on his Hawk was turning 1:25-4's Sat. then rode his friend Johny's SV and was in the 1:20's

I should do a lot better at Auto S since I've ridden it 3-4 x this year and will do a track (north & south) day this Monday on my R6.

15/47 at BHF

You want to gear a bit taller for Autobahn south. I use a 15/45. The 2 less teeth in the back help for that long back straight.

Hm, I wonder if that is why I always get killed by everyone on the straights, I'm running 14/46 I believe for Blackhawk. I'll try the next smaller rear sprocket I got next time I go to see if it helps any.

How much faster is the back straight at Autobahn than the front straight at BHF?  I'm 300-400 RPM short of revlimiter right now at BHF, will this make it at Autobahn?

Not sure, but it seams like its longer to me. I'm rolling on 4th coming onto the back straight at AB south

What is a decent lightweight bike lap time at Autobahn South (not an Ed Key lap-time, but something respectable for us mere humans)?  I have never ridden the track so I will be doing the practice day on Friday to get some track time in and hopefully dial in my gearing and suspension, but, I have no idea of what I should be looking for when I get there.

Sometimes I need either a rabit to chase or a laptime goal to work towards in order to make the most of my practice time...

Mid to upper 30's. A 1:34 or 1:35 should be fast enough (in my opinion) to win an amatuer LW race.
