At Daytona ROC, I finished 3rd in LW Supersport with my Buell XB12R. Ed Key won with his Suzuki SV, followed closely by Nate on his Bimmer. I held off Dave White on his Ducati DS 1000 and there was another SV close behind him. Top four finishers on four vastly different LW class motorcycles. Sounds like a good rule package to me.

Every bike has it's strengths and weaknesses. But Nate rides the wheels off his BMW. He's a great rider and does his best to work the strengths of his bike while dealing with the weaknesses, just like the rest of us. Hats off to him on a fantastic weekend.

Yea, Kern definitely has skills... if I remember, he also rode his BMW in some middleweight and heavyweight races last year and did fairly well.. considering he was riding against 600, 750 & 1K 4 strokes and twins, I'd say very well.

I'm sure that no one could just get on that bike and keep up with 600s or even 750s.

QuoteJeff, you need to get out from under that rock.  Nate Kern is fast.  Put him on anyrthing, and he'd be smokin'.

BMW - Builds Motorcycles Weird.  Heavy.  Very, very heavy.  If someone wanted a Gold Wing class, racing a BMW is pretty close to it.

I can tell you first hand it isn't just the bike.  While we were in different classes I got to watch him in his races.  That thing handles like crap!  It looked as if he fought it all through the infield... I don't care how much HP he had, he rode the nuts off that thing.

SD, NAte is a OUTSTANDING racer on a bloated (sorry NAte) 60 inch wheelbase "SPort Tourer", but the performance (pure HP)difference between the BMW and the other LW bikes was worlds apart, the BMW just blew everyone one away... I think that I might be able to get a 10 top in a LW Class if I rode A BMW if I could only figure out how to get my 45 + year old fat ass, stomach and hips into a set of decent leathers  ;)

I did "circulate" the the track for the F40 and the LW SS and came to realization that I was 15hp short  and 50lbs to heavy to have a go at it on the SV as for the GSXR in F40, the extra 50 lbs did not help and the fact that I left my balls at the house compounded the weekend..... but I never care where I finish, the point is that participated, spent buckets of cash to support our sport, had a absolute blast with everyone, saw excellent racing from many forum memebers and cant wait for the next 15 years of CCS at Daytona !

but did you see MELKA ? I dont care if Greg said it was a "B" racer for M4 that's not the point...... :o

So what do you want from me?

I said I don't know him, so I had nothing to base a comment on his abilities.

I also said at a glance which any reasonable English speaking person on the planet would interpret as: "I am not an expert in the field of the comment I am about to make", or "without knowing further facts".

I then made a statement of the bike probably didn't hurt at a big track like that...

Now, I have NOT raced Daytona.  I've been there a handful of times, but have never raced it.  I have, however, raced enough and do have enough knowledge to make a determination that DIS is a track which can favor a racer on a bike with higher horsepower.  If my determination is wrong, please elaborate on how it is, and perhaps I can learn something.

and I wrapped it up with a closing that my words were Just my $.02 which, again, any reasonable person would understand to be indicitive of a comment which could be read and discarded.

I can't pick it apart or explain it any further unless I break out some paper and crayons.

Why do you choose my post to tear apart and scrutinize?  Why not strike up the conversation with BERZERKER who made the original comment on the BMW, and further made comment that Nate "ran away" from everyone.  Oh yeah, he was THERE.  Were you?

Hey gang, I have read this for a day or so now...  Its a black and white issue here.  the bike weighed in dry at 450, dynoed at 88 hp.  end of story.  the Buells that finished 2nd and 3rd in the national Thunderbike, 380lbs/109 hp.

If anyone thinks the Beemer has an advantage at any track, you can ride my "A" bike and I will ride a stock SV, then we will see how much of an advantage you dont have.  The bike is the true definition of "dont judge a book by its cover", it handles better thanit look sbasically.  If your not going ten tenths all th etime, and or if you make a single mistake, you cannot make up fo rthe mistake.  You have to have a flawless race.  the bike just does things better than what peope think, but it does fall flat on its face on the banking.  You just have to ride the wheels off of it on the infield, and not be afraid to drift both ends entering the chicane.

Good job to everyone at daytona this past weekend and I look forward to the rest of the season.

Thanks for weighing in Nate (no pun intended).  And congratulations on a hell of a win.

lol, none ever taken!  I just do what I do and try to prove that BMW is no slouch.  What I learned in Europe is the major reason why I can show the bikes potential.
