Does anyone's GSX-R fuel injector light come on from time to time with the letters FI flashing over the tempature on the speedo?  Mine has come on and I can't seem to make it go away.

I crashed the last lap of the season last year, suffered just cosmetic damage, got the bike home, fired it up and everything was fine.

Since then I repainted the body work, changed all the fluids, cleaned the air filter and changed the plugs.  I just cannot figure out what would have caused the FI light to start coming on.

Any ideas?

It could be quite a few things. Check all the sensors, many will cause the FI light to come on if they are not functioning/connected. Also, check the section(s) in the service manual that deal with the FI errors. Worst case you can take the bike to a dealer and they can read to error code.

What year is the bike?  On some of the older ones, you can use a jumper wire on the diagnostic port and it will give you the error code on the dash.  (On the newer ones, the jumper wire needs a resistor.)

You can find the error codes on the web, or I can look them up for you in my manual.  Then you will know exactly where the problem is.

Tuck your skirt in your panties and twist the throttle!

thanks for your guy's input.
i found the problem, by borrowing the special dealer mode tool from the dealer.  it turns out to be the Secondary Throttle Valve assembly, it appears the little motor that operates the two cables locked up from corrosion.

Next time, just jump the two wires with a paper clip.  It will save you a trip to your dealer to borrow the "tool".

Did you replace the motor, or remove the secondary's....?

I'm interested in your results, becuase I'm in the same boat right now....

I broke my motor casing in half, and didn't relaize it until just a few days ago. Now I've gotta either replace the motor, or remove the butterflies.

I was able to salvage the little motor and everything works great.  Just a little hint though, if you can salvage yours; make sure you put the little electric motor back in the same way it comes out.  If its flipped the wrong way you'll still get an error.  I put it back in the wrong way on the first attempt and it ran backwards, not good!! (haha).

I would do whatever you can to salvage the assembly because dealer cost on a new one is $236.00, not good either!!!  If you have any questions about the assembly let me know, i seem to have become well versed in its operation now.  You sure can learn alot through trial and error. (lol)

That is not the problem....I've got part of it back in to allow the STP to be remounted....Seems to run fine.

I'm in the process of locating a used one, and have a couple of leads....

at 200 and change, I'll remove it, and the butterflies, and call it a day.

I removed, the motor and all but I have one if you need it.
