He was awake and answering yes and no questions last night. They removed the tubes on Brian yesterday and the fever has gone down to normal so they started reducing the medications he's on so that he could wake up and start checking for feelings and movement. I'll try to keep an update each day as to how he's doing.

Very sorry to hear about your accident, hope things turn for the better. I broke  the C-7 in my neck and was scared enough with that. Here's to Brian and a full recovery.

Here you go (copied from Website update on 3/24)

Thursday, March 24, a stomach feeding tube was installed today mid-morning. A doctor from Rusk Rehabilitation hospital in Columbia came and examined Brian today. During the examination, the doctor ran a metal object up the bottom of Brian's left foot, and his toes curled :). This evening, friends and family were in visiting and someone was rubbing his right foot and he was able to curl his toes on the right foot and left foot. They have one foot in a boot to keep his foot at a 90* angle to keep from losing movement of his feet after being off of them for so long. The boot is switched from one foot to the next every couple of hours. Today Brian was in good spirits although he was asking to be taken outside (he's getting sick of seeing the same room). I think that seeing a tremendous number of his friends and family everyday is helping greatly. He is still getting morphine for pain and today developed a fever again so he got more antibiotics. This evening before entering the room, you had to dress in a gown and rubber gloves to prevent spreading any germs. He is getting pretty good at mouthing words since he is still not able to talk - although a few words are hard to catch. While George and Dale were in the room this evening the TV was on. Brian kept mouthing something, but neither of them could catch what he was trying to say. They were getting worried that he was in pain or something. Finally they got the letter chart out for him to spell the word - "S-P-E-E-D-C-H-A-N-N-E-L" so you know what he is thinking about. He will end up fighting until he is able to get back to doing what he loves - being on two wheels (or less).

DEFINITELY positive news.  I hope he keeps up the good spirits and he has a quick recovery!  I'm keeping him in my prayers.

I'm Brian's sister in-law. I saw him today and he is doing very well. He has a halo on-which he hates-and is still on the breathing machine most of the time. Hopefully it will be out soon. On Tuesday a therapist from Craig Hospital (one of the best rehabilitaion centers in the world) outside of Denver Colorado, is going to come down and check on him. If everything goes well, he'll be leaving that day or the next. Everyone, including Brian, is very excited about this opportunity. Thank you all so much for your support and prayers. Knowing how many people care helps more than you could imagine. You can send donations to:

I just returned from the hospital, and Brian is looking really good!!  I have to say this is the first night since the accident that I felt ok about leaving the hospital. He is one strong guy. Please keep thinking about him!!!
