In the rule book it does not specifically state which classes you can run slicks in.

It only says in SS that DOT tires must be used, meaning slicks are NOT legal.

So are slicks legal in?:

LWSB
LWGP
SUPERTWINS
THUNDERBIKE
And
GTL

I'm assuming they are. Assumptions are a motha, thats why I'm asking the question.

Thanks,

Nick

Good post! I was wondering the same thing, as i run the same classes as you. Anyone have an answer for that??  :-/

Slicks are legal in any CCS class except the SuperSport classes (LWSS, MWSS, HWSS, ULSS).

The exception is Formula 40, which I believe limits some bikes to SS rules but not others.  We might need an old guy to answer that.

Formula 40 runs under SuperSport rules (i.e.  DOT's required)

Lightweight F40 does not (i.e. slicks or DOT's your choice)

Quote6.8 FORMULA FORTY - All participants in Formula 40 must be at least 40 years of age. (Amateur & Expert Divisions)
6.8.1 All machines legal for Lightweight SuperSport, Lightweight SuperBike, Lightweight GP, or Thunderbike are legal for Lightweight Formula 40.
6.8.2 All Formula 40 machines must meet the requirements of Heavyweight SuperSport.

Rob that was a 2004 rulebook you pulled that from
Here is current 05 rule

6.8 FORMULA FORTY - All participants in Formula 40 must be at least 40 years of age.
(Amateur & Expert Divisions)
6.8.1 All machines legal for Lightweight SuperSport, Lightweight SuperBike, 125 Grand
Prix or Thunderbike are legal for Lightweight Formula 40.
6.8.2 All Formula 40 machines must meet the requirements of Lightweight Grand Prix
or Heavyweight SuperSport.

Eric,

Thanks for clarifying...  Since I run a 600 I really didn't pay much attention to the 05 change for the 2-strokes.

Am I reading that wrong, or do those rules not make sense. It says that Lightweight GP bikes are not legal for Formula 40, but that the bikes must meet lightweight GP rules? Which one is it? I guess that if you are legal for any of the other classes, you would be legal for LWGP, I guess it's just written funny.

Edgar now you have me confused, but I think I understand what you are asking. I don't see where it says LTGP is not legal for F40.

Here is example TZ250 not legal in F40 light as it is not legal for Lightweight Superbike, legal in F40 as it is legal for LTGP.
Is that what you were asking about?

OK, Gotcha. A TZ would not be legal for Lightweight Formula 40, but it is legal for Formula 40 (and it can run slicks). Now, a 600 would need to be in SS trim to be legal in Formula 40.

I guess it makes sense now, it's just one of those things you have to read it a couple of times. In other words, they bumped the TZ's from "Lightweight Formula 40" to "Formula 40".
