No joke Dave!

That's another thing that was unfortunately banned in the '94 Crime bill.  The ability for a rifle to accept a genade launcher.

But I wonder if I can own a straight forward launcher....  Naaaa.  When it comes to urban or street defense, nothing beats a few grenades.  Flash-bangs, concussion or the ever popular, sure to change the mind of any would-be mugger (once you remind them that unlike in the movies, they WILL NOT out run the effective range) frag grenade.

What?  Me sick?  I don't think so.  I'm as gentle as a tiger...er... bear...uh.... ;) ;D

I'm picturing Rob and H sparring in the swamp at Blackhawk. :o  H, picture Rob as a Ninja turtle without the shell. ;D

Personally, I've never been facinated by guns.  To me, they're tools.  Buy what you need, keep it handy, stay proficient, and hope you never have to kill anyone.  Don't get me wrong.  I enjoy firing them, and even cleaning them.  It's just that guns don't inspire me to worship them the way bikes do! ::)
The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"

That's a great perspective Chris.  Just some of us need to/like to cycle a lota rounds to achieve and maintain proficiency.  But profieiency is the key.

I can just picture a certain person who used to post here.  Let's just call him "he who shall not be named".  Well Ole he who shall not be named was writing about having a gun in the house at the ready.  Oh too many people buy a gun for self defense then only fire 50 or less rds/year.  Now that's dangerous.  Hopefully they take out the gun once a month to clean it, handle it and remain familiar with it.

Anyway, who could beleive what ole Voldamordt (oops) posted anyway?

Thinking of ole "he who shall not be named", how the hel! did he ever do it?  I mean his profile shows him as registering here on 3/23/04 yet he had 2644 posts.

I've been here over a year and don't even have a third of that.

Was he doing a bunch of two word posts?  Breaking upi his replies into multiple posts?  I suppose that'd the the BBS equivalent of sounding like William Shatner delivering... some... line.   Must... get... back.... on... topic.

Anyway, just an idle thought and question.

Ooooh, my bad, just re-read my post - that should read "I have shot one."   :-[  High-end HK's are a little to rich for this boy's blood.

I'm probably going to regret posting this - but what the heck.

I had this brilliant idea last night of compiling all 2644 posts into a book of comedy.  Naw.... it'd probably become a best seller and then I'd have to fork over some of the royalties to him!

But can you imagine having all 2644 posts in one spot to read thru and be able to track all the bizarre tangents he went off on.

But then again, it could become evidence for anyone who wanted to build a case for the evils of the internet! ;D

QuoteRob, you guys can legally \ own suppressors there?!  Damn!  I thought operable suppressors were illegal on the federal level.  One thing that puts you in sort of a Catch-22 is if you're a civilian wanting to get a new piece for the suppressor.  The '94 Clinton crime bill's firearm provisions made the sale of handguns and rifles with threaded barrels (for..uh... flash suppressors) illegal.  Oh well, if you already own it or buy it privately, you're cool.

H, I believe the '94 Clinton ban sunset as of last September.  At this point, threaded barrels and other combinations of such "evil"  ::) features are once again OK.  Same with high-cap magazines, etc.

Suppressors, SBR's and SBS's are covered under the NFA of 1934.  They are "legal" (at the federal level) with proper approvals.  As Rob notes, in many states all you need is a local LEO signature and the right paperwork.  Unfortunately, in Michigan, there are State laws prohibiting some specifically:

"There is no provision in Michigan law for the acquisition and possession of an automatic weapon by a private citizen, nor is there any provision for the issuance of permits ...for a machine gun or weapon equipped with a silencer by a private individual"
Excerpt from "State Laws and Published Ordinances - Firearms"  ATF P 5300.5

SBR and SBS in Michigan can be had only with certain licensing and if they fall into the "Curio and Relic" category.   The Man has lots of hoops to jump thru in Michigan.

H-man

Hoops or do homemade things.  Have an exchange barrel that's threaded.

But to tell you the truth, it's not as simple as placing a silencer on any old threaded barrel.  If it isn't made to be a hush-puppy - retarded slide, etc - then you'll still have a boatload of noise.

Guess I'll just have to do with SS .22s.  In CQB, they're swift, silent and ....

Uh... allow me to set the record straight.  It's not like I'm sitting here ready to go Postal.  Just marveling at some ingenius little creations.

Let's talk IEDs.

Hehe!  H, with all of this talk of homemade "quiet" tools, IED's, and subsonic rimfire - you're a man after my own heart.   ;D

The limited experience I have with improvised suppression on subsonic .22 suggests your comments are right on the money.  Pretty wild to hear a dull "thoomp," overwhelemed by the slap of the bolt against the stop.  Experiments in pest control, entertainment value at its highest.

If it would make you feel better, my bokken (wood training sword) vs your bo. ;D

And yes Hman, if you come to BHF, bring your sparring gear.  ;D Havent kicked anyone in the head in a few years. ;D (Yes Dawn, I can kick to the head. Dont like to, but can. I love hook kicks).  ;D

Yes 03R6, the AWB sunsetted in Sept. Only thing that still is illegal is folding stocks on AK's due to being banned before the 94 bill.

I'm not nuts. At least thats what Phoenix tells me. :o ;D
