Just got the updated Daytona mailer and CCS said that Ducati 748 can now race in F/USA thunderbike but not the 749. OK great but how about the regular CCS thunderbike class which has almost the same rules, are they or will they allow the 748 in the regular CCS thunder bike class, need to know as Im about to put a 955 motor in my 748 for super twins but I will leave it alone if I can now race thunder bike with it. Someone from CCS please help!! ??? ;D

Unless there's a stated rule change, I'd think the rules remain as they have been.

If you haven't done so already, I suggest that you e-mail Kevin at CCS directly.

Why would a 748 be allowed and not a 749  ???  i don't get it.  It's 1 cc of extra motor ???

Dawn

The Ducati is not allowed in the CCS class.

Sure about that dave, the 749 motor is capable of more power than the 748. The 749 chassie is nothing special at all. What makes you think the chassie is the reason the 749 is not allowed? The 749 should be allowed in SS trim but the 748 stay SBK trim. That would be a good match up.

I have a buddy who bought and built a new Ducati DS 1000 just for Thunderbike. Yikes. He will be bummed that he could have had a 748, probably race ready about the same amount of money.

Isn't the 748 the street version and the 749 the purpose built race bike?

(Honest question guys, I don't know Duc's)

No the 749 is the new version (the little brother of the 999)

Here is basic rundown

748 was built as the little brother and middleweight contender for Ducati from the popular 916,996,998 street bikes.

The 748 and the 916 family had various options the base, the S, the R the RS and the SPS non of which was really a race only version just some that were not sold for street use(and US DOT/EPA compliant) in the US (thus race only)

the 749 and 999 replaced the older 748  and 998 new chassis, wheels, motor it was a new motorcycle as opposed to evolution of existing model.

Last post is accurate -- the 749 has the "Testastretta" motor, which is a big step forward.  The same step occurred in the larger bikes in the jump from the 996 to the 998.  The 998 has the Testasretta, which changed only in some details when the 999 was introduced.

I used to ride a 748, then I got a 998 with the Testastretta (after the 748 was stolen).  The Testastretta revs much more quickly and is smoother.  That said, the 748 was I think the most fun I've had on a streetbike.  It must make an amazing racebike.

I understand that the 748 is allowed in the fusa class but not allowed in the ccs class and I am not sure why?  Is it just a hp thing? And is this the only bike that you can run in fusa thunderbike thats not allowed in ccs thunderbike?  Seams weird if this is true? All bikes are controled in fusa by weight and hp but I could run a air cooled ducati or buell that makes alot more hp in ccs but not a 748? Just asking?

Just a little side note, why in the world would you want to race a ducati?! I had one for 4 yrs and i was so happy to get rid of the thing and get abord a SV SBK. Don't get me wrong i had a blast on the thing, but it was hugh MONEY PIT!!!!!  :o :( >:( :-[ :'(
