I've been involved numerous times in the aftermath of a transport injury where the rider did not return.  Friends, pit neighbors, officials, corner workers, and track owners all seem to get involved, and usually without even being asked.  When it happened at an STT weekend, it was Monte (Co-owner of STT) and I who drove to the hospital (In the track owner's truck, no less!) to check on the guy.  Neighbors had loaded his rig while we were gone, and when we found out that someone was coming from home to get him, we were given the keys to the front gate for when that person arrived.
From Grattan, to Gingerman, to Barber, to MAM, to Blackhawk, to Road America, to St. Louis, it has always been the same.  I can't imagine racers or track day people abandoning a fellow rider in his time of need.  Motorcycle people look out for each other.  (And what other sport has anything like the Wegman Fund?)  Ironically, lending a hand in situations such as these has introduced me to strangers who have later become some of my closest friends.
The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"

QuoteBet your life it would be a toll bridge! >:(

Well if it started in one state and ended in another, never touching Illinois soil, perhaps we could get away with it.  ;)

Better yet, let's put the "crossroads" right over O'Hare! ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Do or do not, there is no "try".

May as well let this go Dan-o.  FOr surely this didn't happen at an STT event.

I've personally driven one guy (who I'd never met before) and his bike back to Royal Oak and driven to the hospital to pick up another guy when I only rode out to Grattan to watch friends.

Gail has been a transport angel to visit a guy in the hospital during a TD, then assist with packing his gear.

Anything can happen, but I think what you may have observed with the Triumph rider is certainly a rare event not something to think is the norm.

BTW, I guess you didn't read my post (about 8 back) too carefully ;)

The more Dan talks about his experiences in our world, the more I realize that he doesn't have any.
Dan, you don't deserve to be one of us.  And even if you do show up, you'll never be one of us.  Find another hobby.

Chris,

You really need to work on being a lot more precise on how you word things.  I swear, you really come across in a very vague manner when you write.  People really have a difficult time interpreting exactly what you are trying to say.  If you need help on your writing style, I'm sure there are people here on the board who would be happy to help you out. 8) :-* ;D

Right, racers never do anything wrong or anything that would be precieved as morally incorrect to others. Gimme a break.........   ::)  Save the speech, people are people, and errors are made.  Neither of us know all the details, nor does it really concern me what happened 2 years ago.

H, no it wasn't an STT day.  It was a private day.  Monte would never let anything like that happen.

I'm done with you, Dan.  You are a disturbed, immoral, attention seeking man child.  You haven't a clue what racing is about, and it's clear from your posts that you never will.  I'm not wasting any more of my time on your impotent mewing.  If, and I do mean if, you bother to show up at the track, you'll be shunned, hated and taunted, just as you were in STT.  So why bother?  You've seen to it that we all hate you already.
Stay away from me if you do show up at the track.  I don't want to meet you, don't want to talk to you, don't want to debate you, and I'm fast enough that I won't have to race you.  If you get in my face, I'll duct tape you to a tree and safety wire your mouth shut.

LMAO...   I guess I'm just too stupid to understand what "racing is all about" because I commented on a situation that I saw happen a long time ago.  ::)  You keep saying that you don't want anything to do with what I have to say, yet you keep posting to things that I've stated.  To quote you:

"I don't believe it.  In six seasons, I've never seen someone go to the hospital and have his stuff abandoned, either at a race or at a track day.  The standard is that his friends (or neighbors if he's new and came alone) pack his gear, load his bike, and wait to see if he returns.  Generally, there will be a bunch of people helping to load the gear.  If the weekend ends, the injured rider's rig is usually towed to a place of safety arranged with the track owner, or if the rider has people who know where he lives, they might take the rig home for him.
No one ever had to make any kind of rule or pact about this.  It's the way things have always been."

Now what you are saying isn't possible or true because of what again?  Hmm..next your going to tell me that there is no such thing as theft at the race track too.  Kinda how I had a set of tire warmers come up missing around lunch time, and were never found.  Common man.  You just want to argue with me for the sake of argument.  This is the real world.  Just because someone holds a race license doesn't mean that they are perfect.  Like I said, I don't know exactly what happened in the situation where they left the bike behind.  I just know it happened.  You, in turn jumped in my coversation with H about the way my friends and I are when we travel to the track, and threw your opinion in to what we do.  You don't know anyone involved, or even me other than the jackass comments I make on the BBS.  Give me a break.  ::)  Whatever, doesn't matter.

Its because of this that so many people find you annoying.

K3 was trying to bring you into our world, to show you how great this racing family could be.  But, you chose to be ignorant and just pad your post count.

All of us showed a great deal of patience with you, and even defended and difused those who came to this BBS to share their past experiences.  Your gratitude is shown by your obstinance.

It's time for you to go and play on another BBS.  I can say with certainty that 95% of us are tired of you.

Last time I checked, I was an adult, and even though I appreciate somethings, it doesn't mean it doesn't get annoying on my side.  I don't come on the BBS seeking anyones approval for something I have to say.  Last time I check, everyone is allowed an opinion.  Just because you don't agree with someone doesn't mean they are wrong or stupid.  Nevermind, it's not worth the headache to type it all out.
