QuoteNot that it really matters Chris, but how did you manage 2 first choice numbers ??? :-/

lol...well i stated that wrong.....my first and second choice.....sorry...either way im not getting either :'(

Don't know if this has been brought up, but why can't an AM and an EX have the same number.  I wanted EX 29 MW CCS and FUSA.  I got 629 MW CCS and 129 FUSA, but the only other MW CCS with 29 was an AM.  Can I get this changed so I only have to add a 1 for FUSA rounds.

Sean:

I can think of two reasons why your suggestion would not work.

1)  Even though we have transponders now, there are still manual scorers.  Many times, the AM and EX classes are run together.  How would the manual scorers differenciate between the AM plate and the EX plate, plus what if there was the same number from a different region that was running an 'x'?  I have helped call out the numbers as the bikes were coming down the front straight, it's not an easy thing to do.

2)  An AM can bumped up to expert mid year.  How would this situation be addressed?

Hey Dawn,

Frist allow me to say (from another thread) that my thoughts go out to you and Paul at this time during your recent loss. :'(

While I don't know for sure either, I would think Sean's request about the number is a fair one and do-able.

Whether mid season or at the end of a season, an AM may bump up to expert.  That person is going to have to remove his/her numbers and get a white number plate anyway.  He/she could then put on a different number if his/her previous number is in use in EX.  I don't think CCS would want to reserve a number in both EX and AM once it is given out.

As for a scorer telling the EXs apart from the AMs, I thought that's the reasoning for the coloured number plates.  If the number plates don't serve that purpose, then maybe we can go without number plates  8)  Kinda like the MotoGP and endurance bikes.

There's all sorts of times when an AM has the same number as an EX (in diferent though neighboring regions).  Jef4y has #42 MWEX and I have #42 GLAM.  Though I supose in that example you could readily tell us apart by the speed difference in addition to the plate colours [LOL].

Anyway, I'm suere that greater minds than mine will sit down and ponder this long and hard.

In manual scoring, the scorers just write down a list of numbers as the bikes pass. They do not have time to make seperate EX and AM columns, often they do not even look at the paper while they are writing. I have done it before (kart racing), it is not easy.

Having the same number with expert and amateur is really not doable until manual scoring is no longer used.

Given what you've said...er.. written Brian, would you see any reason they shouldn't allow contrasting numbers (i.e., no number plate requirement)?

So if I still lived in Detroit, I would be a GL Ex with the number 29 and there would be no issue, unless a MW Ex had the number, which I think happened several times for me in the past.  This is where the argument loses steam - the regions and classification get confounded.

Can I at least get one number for both series?

Let's see what the magic 8 ball tells us....

When therre are 2 bikes on the track with the same number, one generally gets an "X". If you have a large , mulitiple region turnout, like Road America, there could be 3 bikes or more on the track with the same number. When this happens, they will often ask one or more of the racers to use an alternate number for that event.

Do or do not, there is no "try".

Need uniformity with expert and amatuer for those watching the race (trying to keep track what place a person is in). Also for practice, if there are no number plate requirements, how do you know who belongs in which practice?
