Ok...I know a couple of you were looking for feedback on the MotoGP suits.

The suit is made of lightweight kangaroo, probably the lightest suit I've seen.

Perfed on the shoulders, chest and thigh area, they should keep you really cool on those hot days, but if the temps dip, you'll need to think about how to stay warm.

Armor is nice and all CE approved. The suit is licensed through Dorna.

Here's the good part, most the seams are stitched as real seams, very few "overlayed" seams, and the few that are in the suit are not in impact areas. I initially thought that they had used the dreaded "double stitch overlay" to inset the expansion panel, but on closer inspection inside, it became obvious that they made a regular seam and then double topstitched to strengthen the area.

I have not seen a crashed set, these were new right out of the box. From what I've seen these would be right under the RS Taichi suit on my recommended list for off the rack leathers. you can see them here  http://www.bikejam.com/?subcat=2&pmview=&pcview=MOT-65
(This is Lithium's shopping site)

BTW, what looks like white is really the super shiny foiled leather. (front of shins, expansion panel)

Hope this helps those making decisions.

CE armor... Isn't that the "single-use" stuff?  Does it have to be replaced after every impact?

Or am I 'foozed.
CCS AM 815... or was that 158?

I've got a set of the black/silver and although I sometimes feel like Ace Freehley (KISS) they are as good or better than the other 6 suits I've gone through. I've never owned an RS suit, but it is as good as similar high end suits in the $1k range.

CE is the European certification, kind of like the UL approval over here.

It doesn't appear to be single use. It's a injection molded soft plastic, but it has a "cush" to it, it's not hard. The single use impact foam I've seen used is nothing like this.

While I s/b all set for leathers (other than some brilliant graphic that I may have you place on the back of mine when I feel good enough to draw more attention to myself - and no comments about a slow moving vehicle triangle from you K3 ;)), Im interested to see your complete ranking of the leather manufacturers Alexa.

You know, #1 through whatever.

It's really hard to do a ranking for several reasons:

*There are different models within each brand

*There are different contruction methods even for the same model, due to model year changes

*Prices can give you better/worse value for your dollar

*Being crash happy or crashless can affect your decision

*Repair costs between each set can vary

I could put together an algorythm, but math gives me a headache, unless I'm dealing with money.
 ;D

When forced into a generalization:

*Customs rock

*High end suit are sometimes worth their money

*Low end suits you get what you pay for

I would say there are exceptions.  Personally, I believe Fieldsheer makes some EXCELLENT leathers, but they're still very low-end priced.

Dang!  Busted in advance! 8)
The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"

Lexa, have you considered a future in politics? ;)

I suppose you're right though.

So where does that place the Taichi and MotoGP suits in the unversal scheme of all things in protective leather?

Chris, it's scary that my mind could hone in on what you might try.

Now don't any of you other bozos take any cheap shots either. Bernie, lbk, Sunny, et al  8)
