Formula 40 wood burns slow

So, with the recent colder temperatures, I was able to fire up the fireplace for the first time this season.  Not having an adequate supply of firewood laying around, I saw a stack of plaques in my closet doing nothing but taking up space.  ;D So, in they went.

Several hours later, there were but ashes and metal plates except for 1 plaque still burning.  Upon closer inspection, I could barely make out First Place - Gateway International Raceway - Formula 40.

I guess even the plaques are made of aged wood?
