Need to borrow a car trailer for $$

If you live within about 75 miles of Chicago, here's a chance to make a few hundred bucks without lifting a finger.

One of my best friends lives in the Northwest suburbs and needs to haul a car from LaSalle, IL to Wayne, MI (just outside of Detroit somewhere) for his company.  The car is a Ford Focus that is decked out with parts that the company sells and was won in a company sponsored promotional raffle.  They need to get it to the winner of the raffle.

So he needs an enclosed trailer capable of hauling the car, hopefully with the right anchors/equipment to secure the car.  He is fully insured by the company which, by the way, is a well known catalog company specializing in auto parts.  He would probably need it for a few days (you could plan for a week I suppose) to get this done and is trying to deliver the car before the end of the year.  Most of the car haulers he's looked at for rental are not enclosed and the company doesn't want the car to get dirty on the way.

So if you happen to have a large enough trailer in good condition that is currently unused for the winter and could be used safely for this purpose, he could come by and pick it up and return it.

I thought maybe a fellow racer could use a few bucks.  Anyone interested?

Feel free to IM me to discuss the details.
Thanks.

QuoteWayne, MI (just outside of Detroit somewhere)

Wayne is Southwest of Detroit (10 miles or more.)  If he's taking 1-94 from Chicago, all he has to do is get off on Michigan Ave. and make a left.  It will take him right into the City of Wayne.

If you can't get a trailer, you could try a company called Reliable Carriers.  They are based in Canton, and their main business is enclosed car hauling mostly for the automakers show vehicles.  See if you can find a way to stick that thing in with some of the Ford Motor transports going to Dearborn which is right by Canton.  This way if Ford transports a vehicle from your area back, you can get in dirt cheap.  Automakers aren't usually the smartest when it comes to shipping vehicles.  I've had a single car show up in a huge semi, with a $5K bill attached to it.  You'd be surprised what you can do when dealing with Reliable.  A friend shipped his car to Vegas from Detroit for $400.00 with them, because it was going where they were already going for GM.  SEMA show in Las Vegas.  The trailer wasn't full, and since he was an individual they gave him a deal. GM picked up the major portion of the tab just by putting their name on the shipment.  Also, with the autoshow around the corner, they're probably be picking up vehicles from Chicago and Indiana.

Good luck

Before the end of the year?

I've got an 18x8.5.

Should fit, but I don't think I have enough floor anchors.

How about Ptak?

The 24 footer that I sold him earlier this year has four floof mounted tie downs.  More than enough.  Don't know if they built any walls or anything inside...

Thanks for the reply Dave.  I'm at work now so I'll check in later to see if he's posted.  I thought you might have some ideas!

Yeah we have a 24' trailer that was originally a car hauler.  24x8.5... a Focus will fit in there no problem.

BUT

The trailer has been pretty much untouched since the last Blackhawk... and it would probably take us an entire weekend to clean it out to fit a car in there.  I know I don't have an entire weekend to donate to cleaning it between now and the end of the year with the holidays and all.  I don't think we're going to be an option for ya... sorry bud.

We get a lot of our cars delivered by a company called Horseless Carriage. They usually transport exotics but you may be able to get a deal on a return run.

If you look around, there are a few similar companies for transport. Just a thought instead of doing it yourself.

Thanks for the replies guys.  Jim, I know exactly what you mean.  Mine's a storage shed on wheels in the winter.

I've passed along the info and a couple other leads and ideas and he'll proceed from there.
