Anyone here a Ham Radio Operator?

Just curious. Looking to get my General Class ticket in the near future, and get on the air within the next year or so. Would be a nice little side hobby for me. probably start with something on 2M and move to HF eventually, if/when funds allowed.

Always had an interest in radio, electronics and antennas, now acting on it again.

If you are, what modes/bands do you use?

CQ......   CQ......

Eddie Bigham is a the only ham operator on the board that I know of, but then I again I haven't seen him pop up lately.

Huh, OK. I'll be sure to talk to him if he's at the banquet.

I see the C Q has thrown you off   ;)

Ham radio enthusiasts operate primarily via voice and Morse code. Each has unique characteristics, requires skill and provides its own enjoyment.

Voice Operation

  Steps:
1.   Check frequencies. Each band offers different communication possibilities depending on atmospheric conditions and time of day.

2.   Make certain you are within proper frequency allocation permitted by your license.

3.   Tune band to find a clear frequency.

4.   Tune transmitter into dummy load.

5.   Monitor frequency for a short period to make certain you will not interfere with another conversation.

6.   Begin your first transmission by asking if frequency is clear.

7.   Call CQ.

8.   Monitor transmitter and antenna performance while transmitting.

No, the CQ didn't throw me off at all. I was just more suprised that there weren't more here that were into ham, that's all.

I'm definitely curious to see what modes and bands Eddie operates on.

I listen to a police scanner, does that count  ???  It's usually only when their is a bunch of cops down my street or when I hear sirens really close by.
