Dent in Midpipe

Hello,
   Can anyone tell me how much a small dent in the midpipe will affect performance of a slip-on exhaust?

Speaking from experience, it won't.

If it bothers you Harbor Freight sells a stud welding dent puller kit with slide hammer.  I'm not sure if it would work on stainless though.

Yes, it will work on stainless.  I had to do it to my Hindle on both the collector and the headpipe for #2 cylinder.

The ramp slipped off of my truck while loading the bike.   :o

Yeah, well you know me Steve, I've had some experience fixing my bike.  ::)

Are you going to make it for the SW region this year??  I know that every race is far for you now.  Kind of sux.  Although I'll miss the tracks in Cali, I won't miss the drive with 2 kids......and Dee.  :-X

I asked myself the same question. So I check it out on the dyno. My mid pipe had a dent about 1/4 of the way into the flow of the pipe. So I dynoed the bike to achieve maximum horsepower. Then instantly changed the pipe with some good gloves. The pipe was smokin hot!! :o Then install the new mid pipe only to find out the bike did not gain or lose any horsepower! So I left it and finished off the race season with the dented one.
So I think this is the answer your looking for. If it's anyworse than that I'm sure at some point it will cause a flow problem and you will lose power. If your out of money and it's a very minor dent I wouldn't worry about it. Otherwise fix it or buy a new one. Keep dyno records of your bike all season long if you can. If you get with a local performance shop do a few runs throughout the season just to check your bikes performance. Then if you have a problem like your exhaust you can just go have it dynoed again and compare it to your last run. Our shop charges $30 for basic power checks for racers. There is probably a local shop in your area with a dyno.

old school trick from dirtbike days, when you get a dent in a pipe, fill with water (only has to be were the dent is)  throw it in the freezer, water expands dent gone.  It may take a couple times but it will get it perfect.  try it its neat.
