FORMULA 40

This would allow more racers ro compete in this class with any machine they have.  I race a supersort spec. 600 but I would like to see more racers register and run this series.

All I need is some old fart in front of me that cranks a 1k on the straight and parks it in the corner.

(BTW, I'm an old fart...and I have a 1K GXSR, but it stays in the garage on race weekends.)

Great Idea! The more, the merrier. Maybe we could then get grids large enough to qualify for contengency. Think of the lappers and parkers as our sports sand traps. They're just part of the game. If someones not comfortable in the open formula 40, they can always get an SV650 and do battle in the lightweight formula 40.

Lightweight F40, but he didn't limit voting to larger displacement riders, so I threw my $.02 in.  (Plus, I'm avoiding work).   :)

It's fun to start from the second wave and see how many of the larger bikes from the first wave you can get through in an 8 lap race.  I think Ed Key has gotten all the way to the front of them, but I can't stay with him long enough to be able to say for sure.  

I enjoy the challenge and I don't really feel strongly about this topic, but we all know it's a little less fun to deal with the larger displacement bikes who have the hp on the straights, primarily because it takes some of the skill factor out of it.

Very few motorcycle riders ever race motorcycles on a road course.

Someone show me how opening up F40 to larger displacement bikes, without unlimited modifications or not, will dramatically change the entries for the class.

Show me that it won't cause entries to drop because one slights the majority of riders in road racing who ride 600's.

I agree with Dave... entries would drop, not increase if any change were made other than modifying F40 to Middle Weight Superbike status. The poll taken above, tells the whole story!

1000cc bikes HAVE another class to run next year Unltd Superbike that is open to all riders not just over 40.

Another old fart checking in...

After a 16 year absence from motorcycle roadracing, I was delighted to find a class in which I could run an old EX500 in without breaking the bank. I've run 2 race weekends here in the SW Region and have had an absolute blast.
Although the EX pales in comparision to the SV's, it has allowed me to cheaply work on my skills and regain confidence, which should allow me to move up to an SV for the 2006 season.
With that said, the Formula 40/Lightweight Formula 40 mix seems to work well and probably doesn't need to be changed..but it sure would be nice to see others in the Lightweight class for fun.
