Just after the bears game I noticed I had about 30 mins of daylight left so I went for a short ride. Not two miles from my house as I began accelerating/ merging with highway traffic I experienced my first major tank slapper and was ejected from the bike. I must have slid 200 ft. At one point I was sliding backwards watching a full size van approach at highway speeds. And just like the track, before I even stopped, I was on my feet running for the sidelines. Thankfully, I was wearing my coat and helmet. I hate to think of how much worse it could have been. I walked away with minor road rash on my knees and calf, scraped helmet, and torn coat and jeans. My buised ego seems easiest to recover from. I am more fortunate than the bike although it is salvageable. Just wanted to share. Be safe enough to ride another day.  I too thought it could never happen to me.

That sucks.  Glad you're OK.  I personally don't ride on the street any more.  Something about full sized vans bearing down on me at highway speed....
The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"

yeah hitting those doesn't sound like any fun

This is the county that I live in....

QuoteAccording to the DNR, Waupaca County not only leads the state in bow and gun harvest but also has the most vehicle-deer accidents, with 2,333 in 2003.

Between Paul and myself and the seven years we've lived there....  Paul 3 deer, one crane, couple of opossum and a couple of 'coons.  Myself, 4 deer and a couple of 'coons.

Funny thing is, I never hit any of the deer with the front of my car.  They have always run into the side of it.   ::)

Next time you're at the track, take a close look at the hood of my car. It has a buck butt imprint on it. I live in a very populated area of Milwaukee county. Dawn, you might have us beat on deer count, but believe me, they can get you anywhere in this state.  :(

Do or do not, there is no "try".

Alexa,

You're exactly right about deer being anywhere in the state.  Dane county (by Madison) is number three in the state.

I remember my last ride on the street on my ZX-6, Paul on his 'busa, the deer were out in force and some of them wanted to see if they could just sneak in front of us by slimest of margins.  It was nnnooooo fun.

P.S.  I made a mistake, we lived up here 10 years, seven at our current farm.

My wife plowed a deer at the intersection of Bluemound and Brookfield in Brookfield, WI.

For those not familiar with this area, the deer had to be going between starbucks and the boston store.  Friggin urban deer, I tell ya!
