Does anyone know if the dates for the 05 race at Daytona have been made? AMA is scheduled for March 10-12. CCS usually runs the weekend before. Should it remain the same. Anyone know how the renovations are going at Daytona?

If you haven't looked lately, check out the changes so far. They have some renderings up now that show alot more of what it will look like when completed. Talk about turning the infield into a tourist trap, their sure doing that, but that's what it's all about - the money$.

The overall infield layout looks a little confusing to me, but maybe it will be better once I see it in person. I noticed also that they are changing the turn leading into the infield (on the race track), looks like it will go in a little deeper and hook a little harder to the left. I look forward to racing there again. :)

Maybe they'll repave the horseshoes so that the grip is just a tick higher than wet ice.
PS - the seagulls like to hang out there for some reason... I don't think I need to elaborate

can anyone give me a ball park on gearing / sprocket sizes for a 2003 R6?  2005 will be my first time at Daytona.

Not specific to your bike, but generally stock gearing is a good starting point, similar to Road America. I have heard of people going + or - up to 2 teeth on the rear sprocket from stock, depending on their bikes power, their personal riding style, and how fast they are. Those are the majority of racers, but I would imagine there are a few out there that go even further than that, but again alot of it has to do with your personal riding style. :)

Brent with the significant changes to the track gearing could very well be way different than before. The high speed element of Daytona will still be there but the importance of it may not be as great as the infield slower portion of the track will be a larger percentage of the track so a fast lap time may not be with the absolute fast gearing setup as it was before.
I would bring plenty of gearing and if you can make it plan on signing up with Team hammer for their test day early as I would expect that to be VERY full as will the FUSA/CCS races as many AMA teams will sign up for the added track time.

nah, the speed coming out of the chicane will be the same so you'll still want to gear for the east banking.  The new infield sections shouldn't change what you gearing is, its now a shorter track than before.

I predict:

Going into turn 1 you'll backshift three times to 3rd.

Grab and upshift and then backshift into the Int. Horseshoe.

Upshift to 4th throug the new dogleg.

Backshift to 3rd into the new west reverse horseshoe.

Hold third until the back straight.

Upshift twice down the straight.

Backshift once into the chicane.

Grab two upshifts on the banking.

Rince, repeat.
