OK, well, I'm trying to get an FZR400 going ASAP.

Got some running issues worked out, only 2 blocks from my house I snapped a chain and broke the clutch pushrod.

I will Order one Tuesday, and should get it next week.

Again, I'm trying to get this thing street-ready ASAP.

If anyone within 125 miles or so of Milwaukee has an FZR400, I'd like to borrow or buy your clutch pushrod and maybe a chain?

If anyone has one they're not using until the next BHF or something, I'd like to get your current clutch pushrod, and I'll buy you a new one.

FZR600 is the same piece, I think.  Try Don at 414-541-2850.  He will either have one or know where one is.
Hey Nate!  Have you sent me any snail-mail lately? ;)
The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"

Really? That'd be nice.

I'll give him a call later today.

I don't have your snail mail address, otherwise I would've sent you some already.  ;)

Super Dave

Nate...so the case isn't broken?

Those 428's blow.

Sprocket Specialists makes 520 sprockets front and rear...and your favorite 520 chain.

Yeah, what actually happened was that when the chain snapped the pushrod, it pulled the oil seal into an oval shape, and that's where it was leaking oil from.

I had heard about the 520 conversion, and was gonna do it anyway.

DID doesn't recommend a 428 chain for over 350 CCs on a streetbike, FWIW.  The SV, which only makes maybe 10 more HP comes stock with a 525.

So, I just want something to get me back on the road.  Haven't gottena hold of Don.

After talking to my brother, a driveline engineer for a living, I'll just make my own until the new part is ordered and arrived. Having the lathe is REAL nice right about now.  :D

I have a spare 428. Not in the best shape, but I think it'll be fine through Wednesday. I'll overnight the sprockets and chain Tuesday.

Well, just finished machining my own pushrod out of some steel rod I had around, and the spare (non-oring) chain was cleaned, soaked in oil, hung to drip, and now will be lubed with chain lube and mounted.

Crossing my fingers.  :P

This thing hates me.  I got it all together, after briefly losing the key, started it only to find that the oil seal that the pushrod goes through had stretched too much, and was spewing oil at an alarming rate. Guess I'll have to order parts and wait.  :(

Nate, did you check with any local suppliers for an oil seal?  Manufacturers will generally try and use an already existing product if available to keep costs down on new products, including motorcycles. It's amazing how many seals are commonplace and can be found in stock at a local bearing supplier. I went this route when I had to buy new wheels for my '96 GSXR 750 and needed wheel bearing seals, which were on back-order thru Suzuki at the time. The local bearing supply company had them in stock for alot cheaper. :)

I thought about it, but the other problem is that I can't machine a steel pushrod really smoothly. (Pushrod needs to be smooth so it and the seal do the job of sealing well.) Aluminum I could do, but at this point, I'll just wait, as I don't have the time to do it all again. I know OEM parts will work, whereas I can't be 100% sure re-making the pushrod will work.

IF the parts take too long to get here (Ie, not here on Friday) Then I'll definitely go this route, as Friday I'll have time to do it.

Anyway, my other question is this: How do I properly remove the old seal? How do I install the new one without damaging it?
