R.O.C. in jeopardy?

I just saw on the Weather Channel that hurricane Frances is intensifying and is currently a catagory 4 hurricane (out of 5) with winds in excess of 140mph. Frances is going to graze Puerto Rico in the next 24 hours and is on a direct track for the Miami area in several days. There isn't any major land masses in the way to slow down this hurricane before it makes it to Florida and the fear is that it will continue gaining strength. This hurricane is being compared in strength and size to hurricane Hugo from back in the 1980's.

I have been on the fence about going to the R.O.C. this year, and with a tie for the record being set in August for the most hurricanes/tropical storms ever in 1 month I am hesitant to pre-enter, especially with this monster heading that direction currently. :-/

Now the real trick would be to ride the track just as the eye passes over.  Then you could have a 140 mph tailwind all the way around the track! ;D

.... or would it be a 140 mph headwind? ??? :'(

Well, ROC pre entries aren't due until late September...so, if the place blows away...you'd know that you don't need to pre-enter...

My concern wasn't so much with the track itself, but instead the hotel and restraunt situation if this thing hits that area, many may not be usable. If many people's homes are damaged you can bet that your hotel reservations are going to be forfeited to those who don't have a place to live. Federal emergency management (FEMA) has the power to do pretty much whatever they want! :)

Daytona is in more danger than Homestead.  You would be in the same boat if the ROC was at Daytona.  The Building codes in the Keys and south florida were much stricter after Andrew went through there and wipe the place out.  That is where the bulk of the distrution was.  All the Hotels and area buildings are built the the new code.  Daytona is not that strong.....  Besides the storm is projected to hit almost 200 miles north of where Homestead is.

Hopefully hurricane season will die down by Oct.

Anyone know if they allow camping at Homestead?

No camping at ISC owned facilities (Daytona, Homestead).

As for Hurricanes... dang it's only September 1st and people are worried about the third week of October?

Besides, racing in the rain is fun  :-/

P.S. I'm pre-entered for the Team Challenge!    8)

Hurricane season goes all the way thru November. As I said before, August tied the all time record for hurricanes/tropical storms for 1 month, and September is starting out very similar. Florida and other areas along the East coast are still recovering from the smaller big storms that went thru last month, rebuilding can only happen so fast. Residents will get priority in a place to stay during an emergency situation, especially when recovering from mass destruction.

My concern isn't so much with this particular storm as it is with the long term effects of it's results and the potential for more of them during a highly active season. :)
