Can some one give me insite on the so called "Twin Sprint" event @ LVMS? Is it each class raced twice and are the classes the same price?
Thanks.....

Regular event:

In general all sprint and GT classes are run once during a (2) day format. Recently a new format has been used for low turn out events which compresses the schedule down to a single day event. Those events may only have 1 practice session (2 if your lucky), will have almost all races combined with other classes, and may or may not run the GT races.

FUSA event:

Generally a (3) day format with the CCS GT classes and the Team Challenge being run of Friday, the CCS sprints being divided between Saturday and Sunday, and FUSA having qualifying on Saturday and their races on Sunday afternoon.

Twin Sprint:

Usually a (2) day format with all of the sprint classes that are normally run at an event being run on Saturday, then they reverse the schedule of the races and run it all over again on Sunday. I have seen these events run with (1) round of GT races held sometime during the event (sometimes split between the (2) days), and have also seen no GT races run.

The benefit to a Twin Sprint weekend is the cost, you get (2) events worth of races in (1) weekend which reduces hotel and travel costs and entry fees. Entry fees are reduced because you still use the same pay schedule as at a regular weekend (1st race = $70, 2nd = $50, and every one after that = $35). So if you normally run 4 classes (non-purse paying) per event it would cost you $190, and $380 for (2) seperate events. At a Twin Sprint event you would run all (4) classes twice but it would only cost you $330 because every class after the 1st two is $35 each (you save $50).

The down side to this is that if you have to miss a Twin Sprint event, can only attend (1) day, can't continue racing for whatever reason (crash), or can't afford the higher cost for that event then you will definately damage any points championships you may be in pretty bad. These events will also carry along the extra fuel and tire costs associated with extra races run.

Wow Mike....That was a great explanation...Thanks!

I am trying to justify the cost of doing the "TS" event since I am a slow amateur. :-/

cstem

Mike that was a great explanation!  171- you may think you are a slow amatuer, but a twin sprint is an opportunity to cram more track time in and fix on Sunday what you did wrong on Saturday- mentally this is good since you don't have to try to remember your shortcomings months later.

Thanks guy's for the compliment, I would much rather give a complete answer than one that leaves someone (especially someone new) with more questions.

I also agree that a Twin Sprint is a great way to get more track time, during race conditions, for cheaper. I also would like to add that if you can afford it you should try and run at least 3 or 4 classes at each event while your learning new tracks. I have read that it will usually take a person new to a track about 3 races to get it stuck in their head what the track is like, which from my experience seems fairly accurate (though more experienced racers can usually pick it up faster). If you can race 2 days that's even better because a good nights sleep after running the track for the 1st time will do wonders to your lap times the next day. If you could only run (4) classes I would do (2) sprints a day if possible or a GT race on Saturday (if available) and (3) sprints the next day. :)

That's because the brain solves complex problems in your sleep. The optimum amount of sleep for this to happen is 7 hours, although anything over 6 can be beneficial. You also repeat motor skills from the day during sleep.

One study had participants do complex hand movements, and then studied their efficiency and accuracy after a full night's sleep. They improved in all areas after a good sleep, but showed little or no improvement after less than 6 hours of shut eye.

So, the moral is: don't party late into the night on a race weekend.

Do or do not, there is no "try".
