I have an expert CCS license, and want to try my hand at a few AMA events when they are in my area next season.  The AMA's website isn't all to clear on what they require for licensing.  Does anyone have any info?
Thanks,

It's not as simple as writing a check and getting a license.  AMA has a points conversion which requires you to accumulate XXX points in order to get a license.

The instructions used to be pretty clear on the AMA site.  If they no longer are, call CCS.  They have to help you in getting your AMA license anyway...

They have a .pdf file on the amaproracing.com site somewhere (though I can't seem to find it now.)

You need to acquire 100 points (according to their scale, not CCS's) to obtain your license.  What makes it tough to do is that the grids must have 16 riders minimum before your results count towards AMA's points structure.

Drop me an email, and I can fwd the .pdf on to you.

Thanks for the help guys, i appreciate it.  Like I said, just want to try next year, possibly at Road Atlanta or Barbers.

It is "possible" to get a provisional licence.. takes recomendations, killer results from prior season(s) or the points as calculated by the ama system. Lots of points in ccs = very few ama points.

I may not be correct on this, but I believe that the CCS can actually send a letter on your behalf to get your AMA card. I have known a person who dod not have the total points with the large grids and did get race AMA.

You moght check on this with CCs and AMA

It is possible that way...

Back in 1996 I was an AM CCS racer...I had my AMA license (SS only) in 1997.  1998 got my SB license...Got some recommendations from the CCS / WERA folk.

A letter should help if you don't have the points but have the skill (or some of it! lol)...

Good luck!
