Good deal.  Too bad the support deal for 2005 is not with a 1000.  Sure would be nice to see him back in some AMA races next year.  It was pretty cool seeing Graves all up in arms when Rob whipped up on them at Brainerd a few years back.   ;D

AMA for him?  As long as it pays better than what he makes racing for contingency, he'd do it...until then...

Got this months RRW and he had alot of wins. Some other mag had him winning a bunch of wera races as well. He like many Yamaha riders were a bit disapointed to see the contingency shrink to paying 1st place only. No biggie for me but he and others do this for a living.

Yeah, don't get me wrong it is a great deal either way.  Just wish they could swap the 750 for a 1000 then he could do both.  What does it say about the AMA series when a lot of fast guys don't even bother because the cost far outweighs the benefits.   Meanwhile they can earn 60-80 grand doing manufacturer money races.    In the end it does hurt the quality of depth in a lot of AMA races.  In any event, congrats to Robbie.

From what I know, he has no intentions of AMA anytime soon...like SD said, not worth his time or $.  

I think he just feels bad spanking a pack of good old boys and is giving them a break  ;D.

Actually, I think he would prefer to get the 750 support instead of the 1000. He rides an R1 in the 1000 class since they pay so well (compared to the Suzuki). Unless Yamaha dropped the payout next year, I think he would rather stay on the Yammie's. His 750 is actually pretty bent and needs work, so for him to get that replaced and get a good setup would be better than getting a 1000 Suzuki. I remember Mike Fitzgerald (Thermosman) at Road America in awe wondering how Rob could ride the 750 so fast since it was such a piece of crap.

Robbie made over 125K last year in contingency money. I don't think he got affected much by Yamaha dropping the payouts for 2nd's and 3rd's since he is currently winning most of the races he entered. Pegram showed up at Mid-America thinking that it would be easy cash, and ended up with a bunch of 2nd places. Last weekend it was Yamaha money at BIR. Rumor was that Pegram had mentioned that he may be going to BIR for that round, but after the Mid-A round he decided to go to Grattan instead... Kind of hard to beat Robbie at his home track, you know.

I don't think the reason you don't see Rob at the AMA races is because he does not have a competitive bike. His bikes are well setup. I think it's mostly a "lack of earnings potential" issue. He makes lots more money by chasing Yamaha bucks than he would ever make racing AMA out of his own pocket. He did that in 2002 and realized that even a good finish does not mean a good payday.
