.... updated my virus definitions and then cleaned my computer.  Now I can't get on line at home.   ::)

I get a start up error that states:

"A required .DLL file, WSOCK32.DLL was not found."

Until I can fix my computer, you can PM on the board.

That's bad, but not fatal. How much data is on the hard drive? Do you back it up regularly?

That said, try starting from the boot disc. If you have XP, you can go back to the last known safe configuration.

There's ways you can start up in safe mode, and fix the problem, but it might be better for you to get a local geek to come over and help you solve the problem.

Good luck.

Do or do not, there is no "try".

If you have the OS disk, you can re-install it over the old one without losing your data. Make a backup anyways just in case.

Probably, mostly because all the windows machines out there will get herpes, then everyone will switch to Mac.  ;D

Actually I;m really surprised there havent been many Mac viruses out. With the number of graphic arts places and newspapers using them.... I seen a couple G4's at a bank. Maybe some businesses that dont need the graphic capabilities of Macs are going to them to keep viruses out. Hell I wish I could had got one of the original Mac's that I used back in the 80's. Still have an Apple product in a box though. Scary thign is my 1983 Apple //e still WORKS great.:D:D

I've had that happen before. Trying to explain how to fix would be a little drawn out.

This might be easier.
