Anyone got info on this track? Been thinking of heading out there for a vacation in Sept to visit some guys I know on cycleforums. Is camping allowed at the track? Showers? Hows the track? Gate fee (for a CCS event)? Whats the earliest they'll let you in the track?

Thanks.

you can check out their web site at

www.summitpoint-raceway.com

camping is allowed

there are two shower options. A nice one near the tower and a not-so-nice one near pit out.

not sure on gate fees (since i get in for free because i volunteer with MARRC)

most of the time the track is rented to another group up until 6pm on fridays.  They usually don't let people in the gate until the other track renters are done.

As far as the track condition goes...there are some bad spots but it was repaved a few years ago. (some say it needs to be repaved again).

The always charge gate fees.  Electric is $10 (minus deposit).  The track is great, with two turns that you have to watch, T3 and T4.  4 doesn't have much run off, and is a fast downhill sweeper. 3 is an awkward left that goes off camber. For whatever reason, when people fall in these turns they seem to get hurt.

Overall, great track, long straight, good mix of L and R, slow and fast.  Concrete patches have excellent traction, so its bumpy, but not slippery.

The CCS September event is not at Summit, but at the yet to be completed Shanandoa curcuit. You might just as well not plan to go until a race really does happen there.

the Shanendoah Circuit is at Summit Point. It's on the other side of the track office.

There are now three circuits at Summit Point.  The main circuit, the Shanendoah and the Jefferson.

It's more like two and a half at the moment. It's pretty touch and go as to when they're actually going to get the new Shanendoah circuit completed. They are working very hard on it, but it's no where near completion at the moment.
