when you buy a generator for the track?  Big or small? How much power do you really need?   I will have a generator for the next race (albeit a louder low end one) but should I go for the gas guzzling 5k watt behemoth? or the slightly more efficient, if less useful 1.5k watt one?

Would I use the extra power if I had it? I could share juice with another racer if I had the extra but is it needed?  They always say its not the size of the boat... but I wouldn't want to row across the atlantic in a dingy.

Please help me! I cant decide!!!  ???

Does size matter.....

Heh heh heh....  Oh all the thoughts that ran through my head when I read that subject line.   :-[  ;D

Here's my opinion on the subject.  Get the bigger one, if you don't you'll wish you did.  We have a 6100 Makita (we wanted to run the house if needed also), true it's a moose, but we don't have to worry about over stressing it and it really isn't that hard on fuel.  For example at RA last weekend we had two sets of warmers plugged in for about 4+ hours and it used less that two gallons of gas.

If you have someone plug in with you, have them throw in a few gallons of gas and life is good.

Bigger is always better.  You'll never know when you may need it.  Remember the blackout las year.  I wish my little Honda EU2000 was enough, but it wasn't.  It'll run everything I need at the track, but if I need it for anything else, I'm outta luck.

Madxx.. it depends on what you wanna use it for.
I got a 1000W Honda (EU1000)

All I need to power is my tire warmers, and 2 fans. The 1000W was fine for me.

You have to look at everything that you wanna run/plug in, and add up the Wattage. Then get something slightly larger.  I love the HondaEUs they are SUPER quiet

So its looking like size does matter.  I wonder what freud would say about this...

Anyone who wants to share some of my 'lectricity on Saturday or Sunday just let me know.  I will probably be getting the bigger one.

Saw a Honda EU3000 at RA. Saw the darn thing before I heard it as it was so quiet. $1800 new at Engelhardt in Madison. Is there somewhere to pick these up "reconditioned"? E-bay? Anyone else have a generator recommendation?

I looked on ebay and all of the honda's and yamahas I could find were at or close to retail, even the used ones.  They are in high demand, especially with camping season upon us.  I got the impression that if you bring a loud generator to a campground you may find yourself tied to a tree naked and covered in honey.
At the track I hardly noticed the generators, loud or not, over all the other noise during the day.  At night they are turned off anyway.

Get a Honda EU1000, EU2000 (I have it), or a EU3000.  You won't be dissapointed.
