middleweight supersport rules......
graves velocity stacks??
graves slide stops??
dynojet speedshifter??

I see in the rulebook is says stock airbox, I will maintain the stock airbox but the stacks will be different.I want to make sure before I spend money. My bike is BONE stock right now and I am going to dive into it and do everything at once starting with some suspension.

I heard one of the tech inspectors at VIR say that Graves mad the only legal SS stacks.  It's not the "height" that makes them illegal, but the width or diameter.

I am not sure, but o nthat model aren't teh velocity stacks attached to the airbox?  If so that could be interpreted as a no go.  You could split hairs with about it but remember, compliance rests with the competitor and the tech inspector has final say.  I would try to get ahold of your local tech insp and ask.

Yes, I got teched after the MWSS race at VIR and he was telling us the Graves stacks and stops were legal. And I don't see why the speedshifter wouldn't be. Nothing in the rules saying you can't.

I know the WERA rule book says the shifter IS legal...It's also legal in AMA SS...

Don't know about the V stacks though...

thanks guys. I am going to order them today. I hate to get disqualified for something I don't really need right now. Hope to see all of you at JenningsGP again for the SE/FL race.

I would think the stacks are a superbike level mod, not legal for supersport.  Don't they something about OE carbs/fuel injection system.  I would think this would apply.  Besides if you ever have to take your airbox apart for inspection, the blue anodized parts may look suspcious.

As I said...and straight from the horse's mouth (CCS TECH INSPECTOR DURING POST RACE TECH FOR MWSS) Graves Stacks are legal for SS. The diameter must remain the same, ht does not matter. And as we all know, the ht is the only thing that Graves changed on their stacks.
I read the rules too...but it is so subjective... I'll listen to who has the final say anyway: my tech inspector.  ;)

both Kevin Elliot and the tech at VIR confirmed that Graves V Stacks and the slide stops are LEGAL in CCS SS. I have this in writing.

Sounds good to me.  However, it may be safe to assume that they don't know the tuning effect of a change in stack height.  What you do not gain in volume, you gain some proportion in intake air speed, which plays a larger role at the top end of the rpm range for shorter stacks and in the mid-range of rpm for longer stacks.

This is good news to me because my used race bike came with some, and I had them replaced because I assumed it would violate the rules.  Now at least I feel a little better about trying them out.

I am not arguing, just trying to clarify the statement.

I guess the confusing part is whether the velocity stack is considered to be a part of the throttle/carb body.  If it is, then this modification would be illegal.  If not, then you should be able to modify the stock velocity stacks.
