Just purchased a cherry 1996 GSX-R750 that is all stock and would like some info on the basic setup. Rider at 170 lbs. I did a search, but little info :'(

1. rear sag
2. front sag
3. fork oil weight
4. how many mills front forks above tripple
5. where can I get dogbones to raise rear end
6. are stock springs (front & rear) ok for 170 lbs rider
7. what main jets for full system & K&N

Anymore "need to knows" would be appreciated for track days....I have some past racing experience.

THANKS !

1&2   There are alot of differing opinions on this.  I will let someone like Super Dave answer these two.
3   I can't remember what weight I used back when I had one.  I believe that it was 7.5 weight when it was re-valved by Race-Tech.
4   I had mine sticking 5 mm above the top triple clamp.
5   You don't need to get the dogbones.  You can buy a shock ride height adjuster from Lockhart Phillips that lengthens the shock by 5 mm.  You can then add additional washers to add even more length.  It costs 40 bucks.  If you do no want to raise it that much, there is some room to add washers to the threaded area of the stock shock.  I think mine was raised at least 10 mm.
6   They should be close.  I believe the stock springs are designed for a 160 lb rider.
7  Don't know.

GSXR RACER MIKE

Being that I own that same bike and raced it for about 6000 miles, I have some experience with it. Unfortunately back in '99 I had a house fire and lost all my notes up to that point in my racing career. I do remember that I ran a K&N also and a full race Yosh exhaust along with a jet kit. I remember I had to get 1 size larger jets than the kit came with in order for the thing to fly like it was on fire.

I could also swear that the stock shock spring is only good for something like a 130lb. rider (but that's going by memory, and I have no idea where my memory is going!)

I am looking to return my '96 GSXR 750 back to street trim, so if you're interested in purchasing some race stuff for that bike I may be able to help you out for cheaper than buying all the stuff new. I have some gearing, an X-ring chain, body work, etc.

If your interested E-mail me at GSXRRACERMIKE@aol.com

Thanks guys that helps quite a bit. It kinda sounds like the stock suspension is soft and I need to start with new springs front and rear...like all production bikes?? Drop the front 5 mm and raise the rear about the same with washers and then get it out on the track for the fine tuning  ;D

What size rear tire are you guys using in the Race H2 Michelins... and front and rear tire pressures for Jennings ?? Also, are the stock pegs high enough or do I need rearsets??

Thanks,

Jerry

Super Dave

Why does my name seem to come up?

Ok, sag is just a way of changing ride height.  First you need the correct springs, yes.  Then the correct geometry for the tire combination.  Michelins run shorter in the back and taller in the front.

Really, you want to make sure that you have enough trail up front for it to give great feel.  Shock length, etc. will allow the bike to make the proper amount of anti-squat.

If the bike has stock forks that are stock, I probably wouldn't pull the tubes up.  Might shim up the back though.

Rear tire...180 rear with the 5.5 inch rear.  H2 rear is good.  Don't use the H2 fronts for racing.  They are not appropriate.

The rest...don't know.  Wasn't racing a Suzuki then, and most people only last about 2 or three years...you've almost got a vintage motorcycle now...LOL!  Hope this all helps.
