I'll start by saying I'm a truck driver so I'm no fan of drunk driving. But it doesn't say if he was plastered or was coming home from dinner with his girlfriend. Some states are pretty rough and possibly he split a bottle of wine. Hopefully a more indepth report is forthcoming. Sad either way.

QuoteWHY ! ? ! ? !  >:(

Maybe he was looking for a free plane ticket back to his homeland  ???  That's what's gonna happen once immigration gets thru with him more than likely.  Happened to a kid in college.  Nice kid from Yugoslavia got a drunk driving, first time in trouble, and they sent him back to Yugoslavia.  But, for Gobert, considering he's famous, more than likely, he'll be in AA again.
Kinda sucks though, they could have atleast posted his BAC so we know if he was wasted, or just had a shot and then got in the car and drove home.  In MI, one good drink and your going to jail.   :-/

I don't think he'll get in too much trouble with his team.  Atleast he didn't drop kick another competitor on national T.V.  ::) :-X

I don't know how old this is, but it doesn't appear that this is the first time he was in trouble.

I always thought that I was a mid-pack rider because I lacked talent and money.  Perhaps the real reason is that I don't misbehave enough?
That does it.  I want to be a racing success.  Starting now, I'm going to drink and drive, lay down on the track whenever the race isn't going the way I'd like, use illegal drugs, start bar fights, make crazy-stupid passes on anyone slower than me and complain at the top of my lungs about them when my stupidity causes us to crash, whine like a baby and blame the rules, my bike, my tires and the other riders when I lose, and punch, body slam and drop kick anyone who so much as shows me a wheel.  No doubt I'll have a big-dollar AMA contract by 2005 with my new strategy!
Oh, and I'll also be divorcing my loyal, loving wife for some silicone superhottie trophy girl as soon as I make the big time, so anyone looking for a really good woman who was always better than I deserved should start making plans now...
As for all the friends and sponsors who have helped me on my way up, you'd best hope your pockets are still deep enough to hold my interest when I'm a star, or you'll have to stand in line for an autograph like everyone else, and just hope I don't decide to end the session before I sign your poster.

Really.  So many of the pros behave like spoiled children.  I find it very hard to look up to most of them.
The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"

I like Ben Bostrom's remark when he lowsided in the superbike race at Fontana....

"I was looking at the lapper ahead of me and my bike turned in faster than his...."

I watched that race and the lapper wasn't even in the shot.  Ben, you cut the corner too tight and your foot peg hit the curb and lifed the bike.  Dang it man, take responsibility for your own actions!

Mladin on the other hand in the post race interview didn't get down on the backmarkers, he said that they are just part of the race.

The Boz boyz have this common theme...  If something goes wrong, blame the back markers.   ::)  (P.S.  shave your sideburns, it's not the 70's ya know.)

OK, I'm done now.

I to didnt like Ben Bostrom quote about the rider in front of him, however I think it is quite arrogant of you to put Eric into the same general statement about when things go wrong they blame back riders.  Just my 2 cents though.

QuoteUhmmm, if any of you follow racing, you will know that Anthony Gobert is a notorius party boy. This is unforunate, but not unexpected. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he lose his world level ride due to drug use and inconsistant performance?

Do or do not, there is no "try".

I love the way Eric rides and I have a lot of respect for what he can do on a bike (when he was on the green machine, he was just awesome).  However, I have listended to the Boz boyz over the past few years and they had this recurring theme....  "Back markers"  In fact Eric himself on TWT said that he would love to race Moto GP so he wouldn't "have to deal with the back markers...."   Funny, I watch Moto GP and they have back markers there too.

DAWN,I AGREE WITH YOU ,I AM SICK AND TIRED OF HEARING INTERVIEWS WITH FACTORY RIDERS AND THEM BITCHIN' ABOUT BACKMARKERS.IN EVERY FORM OF RACING I HAVE EVER WATCHED THERE ARE PEOPLE BEING LAPPED AND IT IS THE OVERTAKERS JOB TO PASS THEM CLEANLY.HAT'S OFF TO MALADIN WHEN GREG WHITE ASKED HIM ABOUT LAPPING RIDERS AT FONTANA AND HIS REPLY WAS THAT THEY WILL ALWAYS BE THERE AND THAT IT IS PART OF THE RACE AND DEAL WITH IT.

Rules for student visas and work visas are different. Otherwise a few of the MExicans I used to work with that had work visas would had been deported many times. MOre than likely that student broke a condition of the foreign exchange policy and had to go back home. When I went to Aus in 11th grade, there was ALOT of rules that I had to adhere to or else get sent packing.

if i get arrested for dui,

i can be sure that you won't see me again.

i'd be put on the first plane out of the country :o

the fact that gobert is a high profile professional sportsman has delayed his deportation.

money makes the world go round , the ins suck.

if i leave the country and want to come back , i have to pay for the privilage.
i am married to a us citizen, expecting our first ( of many) child, working, paying taxes and social security and medicare, yet if i so much as bend the rules i am gone.
nothing i can do.

it should be the same rules for us all.
i wouldn't like to see gobert gone at the same time.

he is good for the ama.
he has character.  ok so he might be the so called bad boy of the ama, but where else are they going to get the same publisity. ;D ;D

just my opinion on the subject. 8)
