I can't help but note the following from the final qualifying times at Fontana.

The #1 supersport qualifier would have qualified 6th on the superbike and superstock grids with his 1:27.3 time.  The #20 supersport qualifier would have gridded 25th on both superbike and superstock grids.  What does this tell me (uneducated)?

1) Its all rider ability, the difference in lap time/speed between a top rider on a SS 600 and a SB 1000 is about 2%.  This on bikes with close to double the HP.

2) There is basically no difference in track time between the superstock 1000 and superbike 1000.  Given the differences in permitted modifications, my only guess is that stock bikes have become so good (in handling and power) that the dramatic difference in $$ in building a SB v. a superstock bike just doesn't translate into a measurable performance difference.

Conclusion, I'm staying with my '02 ZX6 and working on my riding.

But, I'd welcome the thoughts of those smarter and more experienced than me.

yea ive been noticing that too.

WHAT YOU DONT KNOW IS HOW WELL THE   sry for the caps.  how well the facotry bikes handle !!!

and think about this.   why are the supersport factory bike going faster than the Formula extreme bikes ??

Im betting Those  "factory" supersport bikes are putting down 150 hp.  and a Factory SuperStock bike is close to 190 HP.   with a Factory Superbike putting out 215 HP.   They all have showa or ohlins making special parts for them !!

And to quote the line from Days of Thundar.   "There aint nothing Stock about a Stock Car"  Same goes for the Supersports ans Superstock bikes.

Oh any think about this.  Any guesses as to why malidins bike was sounding like it was hitting the rev limiter "Coming Off the Corners"  as Sadowski put it. Im betting Traction Control !!!!

But, that doesn't explain why the #20 SS guy is would be gridding 25th in the SB class.  No factory bikes there.

He had a couple inches of the pipe shortened to change the sound of his bike so he can hear it with the others around. Acording to some stuff I seen tonight.
