Sidestand switch, propyl flush, & oil filter clamp

A. How/where do I disconnect the sidestand killswitch now that the kickstand is off?

B. For winter storage I had the anti-freeze in, drained it, flushed twice. Is there a block plug I should be pulling to speed this up and more properly flush?

C. What sort of clamp set-up do spin-on oil filter folks use for safety wiring the filter?

The bike is an '01 GSXR. TIA

I don't know the answer's to your questions, but I do have an opinion....

Personally I would never consider removing a block plug from your motor.  It's just inviting the chance to have it leak or fall out.

In regards to the oil filter, Paul has a hose clamp on his safety wired to a bolt on the engine.

 Ah Ha, thank you again!! First, I'm gonna try simply removing the sidestand/turn signal relay. First, I gotta put some water in 'er with a wetter. Maybe I'll try the search mode as well. Bored and ready for the 23rd as well. ;)

You might have to make a bypass wire for the sidestand switch.

What ever you do DONT JUST TAPE THE PLUNGER DOWN!! Guy did that on a TLR in 99 during the school, tape came off mid corner, bike shut off, bike fall down.

 Bike fall down bad. Will simply removing the relay switch make fire? :o I'm not sure how to make a bypass wire. The 13x lead mentions it, but nothing too specific. I'll keep the search going.

A jumper wire at the plug where the sidestand switch would do it. Fool the bike into thinking the kickstand is up and closing the circuit.

Don't just take the kickstand off.  Take the switch and everything.  It will disconnect at a green plug under the tank.  Now, you have two options.  Cut off the green plug that runs into the wiring harness and connect the two wires.  Or, leave the plug and just use a scotch lock to connect the two wires together.

I don't think there is a block plug. (just the air bleed plug)  If there is, I have never used it.  I just drain and flush twice, like you did.



C. What sort of clamp set-up do spin-on oil filter folks use for safety wiring the filter?

Put a hose clamp on the oil filter and tighten.  Use the safety wire to secure the hose clamp to a part of the bike that will prevent the filter from loosening.   The way that I secure the wire to the hose clamp is to make a loop of the safety wire that runs through the groove of the screw, where you tighten with the screwdriver,  (this keeps the hose clamp from loosening.) around the back part of the tightening mechanism and back to the head of the screw.  Then safety wire to the bike.

The bike is an '01 GSXR. TIA

Also, I just read the link that Dawn posted.  They talk about the clutch lever control pod.  I forgot about that.  You can remove that too.  However, you then have to use a jumper wire at the big yellow plug where you disconnected the clutch side control wires.  If you don't, you can only start the bike in nuetral because the bike can't tell if the clutch lever is pulled in.

Let me know if you want to know how to do that.  It is pretty easy and worth doing.

I dont like jumping the clutch switch because I could accidentally push the starter button while bike in gear and bike jumps and fall down...

I removed the OEM wires and rewired my clutch switch with new wires so now it functions as intended.

 Thanks Dawn, Rob, Bill, Philly- finally figured out what a jumper with scotch lock is with the help of a friend who is a phone guy. We did as directed by you folks, unplugged the connection, installed scotch lock jumper. Cool. No fire. Thanks again. 3 steps closer to Elkhart.

Oops.  I mis-spoke on my earlier post.  What I should have said was that if you don't install the jumper, your bike will do what Philly said and be able to start in gear without the clutch pulled in.  The jumper wire at the yellow plug lets it only start in nuetral.

Philly's way will work too if you want to run wires to the clutch. :)
