Ok computer gurus, I need help. I'll try to give as much info as I can. I have a Dell running Windows XP Home Edition. I have Internet Explorer 6 and I'm having an application hang. I should also state that I have all the recent service packs, ran Spyhunter, Norton Antivirus scan, defragged hard drive, have 768 meg of ram, 2. something MHz P4 processor.

Now, here's my problem. Internet connection is fine, everything downloads quickly. BUT, after a page loads Explorer hangs. I can't do anything. I can't click on any links, hit the back button, nothing. I can't even close the browser window. It hangs for about 30 seconds, then I'm able to do what I want.

After doing a ctrl+alt+del and end task, it says that explorer is running, but when I click: end now, the generate an error report window pops up. When you select more information it says the problem is: hangappl or something like that. I'm typing from memory.

I've tried a system restore to a date when I know it was working properly and that didn't work. Everything else is working fine except explorer and I'm ready to throw it out the window. PLEASE HELP!  :-[

When it hangs press CTRL+Shift+Esc instead of CTRL+ALT+DEL, go to the processes tab and kill processes one at a time until you find the one causing the problem.  After you know the name of the process hanging you up do a search and find out what application it belongs to and un-install it.

I bill at 1 hour minimums so you owe me $100  ;D

So,

While it's hanging, just start killing processes one at a time until it stops hanging? Assuming the last one that I kill is the culprit?

PS: Man you're expensive!  ;D

Just don't kill a process that you need for windows to keep running.

And he's not expensive... think of that!   :o

Windows 2000  or XP won't let you kill a process required by the operating system (95 or 98 will).

I'm expensive because I got skillz  8)

I figured it out,

My roommate installed some kinda version of Adobe over the current version I have and I guess it didn't like that. So I removed all that BS and BANG everything is back up and running. That was one reason why I didn't give my roommate administrative privaleges on his account.  ::)

Thanks for all your help again! You guys rock!  8)
