I understand the new rule requiring the rider number be available on the rider helemt.  I understand the reason for this rule.

My quick question is--should it matter whether its the helmet or somewhere else?  For instance, I have my rider number in large 8" chrome plastered over the back of my leathers.

I believe CCS wants the number on the helmet so they have a consistent place to look for it. Also, if you crash and are unconcious and on your back, they won't think to turn you over to check your leathers.

Something to think about is having any pertainent medical info on your person, especially if you have a medical condition (i.e. diabetes) or an allergy to some meds. Others have suggested having your blood type added to this as well. It might save your life.

Do or do not, there is no "try".

The way some of my helmets have looked, the number may not be there when I finally stop...
The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"

MZ Girl has a great idea... put a large Red Cross "cross" on the inside chest pocket of your leathers... and put a card with all your medical info (allergies, blood type, emergency contact, etc.) in it.  The medics will recognize the cross when they open up your leathers.

I haven't gone so far as to label what's in my pocket, but I do keep a similar card in mine.
CCS AM 815... or was that 158?
