Geoff May broke the lap record at Homestead-Miami Speedway during the Unlimited Grand Prix race at the 2004-season-opening CCS Florida event Sunday. May ran his fastest lap heading for the white flag, his time of 1:26.56 almost a second faster than the record set by Marco Martinez last December. And with a maneuver reminiscent of teammate Michael Barnes, May rode his Prieto Racing prepared GSX-R1000 across the finish line in a stand-up wheelie with a lap time of 1:27.99. Later, he explained that he "had to show everybody that I know how to do a wheelie."

:-/ I hope if he abides by the CCS rules he was fined or either another case of FL region doing what they want to :-/

we were warned about wheelies in riders meetings in the past.. however.. we were given some discresion (well i wasnt as i suck).. but if your winning, and looking behind there is no one, if memory serves we were given an ok. We were warned about cool down laps, warm up laps, crossing finish line back in the pack.. your just endangering other riders.
May had a large lead, looked behind.. broke the lap record (with the cones removed off the back section resulting in more speed, but hey..).. hard to fault the guy.

yes.. we can get fined..

I have seen Alex F. doing wheelies repeatedly as he pulls onto the track for the warmup lap at Jennings. Truly unsafe and stupid. No one said a thing to him or mentioned wheelies at the riders meeting, they pretty much do what they want Trey. :o

I think Geoffs wheelie was awesome.  What pissed me off was the idiot doing a wheelie down the hot pits on his way to a stop a go penalty after he got the meatball flag...that was just stupid....

So all you complainers out there, complain about that type of stuff and not about another florida guy breaking another record in style.....Jealousy is a terrible trait...... :P

If it violates the rules, it violates the rules, doesnt matter if he broke the track record on not. Jealousy has nothing to do with it, Safety of yourself and others around you has plenty to do with our posts. Trey could care less if the guy broke the track record, correct me if im wrong Trey. Also when one person feels its alright to wheelie if he happens to break a track record, then the other idiots that are watching think its OK to wheelie whenever they want too. Make more sense now??

rules are rules but "some discression" can be applied! Geoff had a pretty big lead and did look back.. Mike Smith did a wheelie across start finish at Jennings last year in a race and pretty sure that was a combined se/Fl race..
i agree with the rule, but some discression and common scence can be used to still have fun and everyone will still be safe...

Well lets get the rule changed to read, "If you look back, if you are Alex F., there is no one around, you just broke the track record, you are Mike S., if you use some discression, you just want to have some fun, wheelies are OK." Even if you pull a wheelie at a track day they will kick you compleatly off the property. Its just everytime I go to a SE/Fla race at Jennings its really crazy down there. I was passed twice in two different races by guys cutting across corners in the grass, they did it on purpose, I thought to myself if they want it that bad they can have it! :o Real aggressive stuffing people and banging bars, wheelies everytime Alex F. pulled onto the track. Some guy falling on the front straight then trying to push his bike across the race line causing a massive pileup;D When I go down to SE/Fla races I just try to survive and get my SE points. Me and Trey have talked about this, we both hate going down there because of all this stuff. Maybe Im just getting too old for you super aggressive Fla boys, I have to go to work on Monday. Im off this subject, Ive said enough.

not to get off topic but how is it that simply being in FL makes us "super agressive" ? I can't imagine with thousands of riders in 8 regions across the country, FL has "the most agressive riders"... I have been to jennings perhaps more than any rider (literally).. and i have yet to see time made up by going through the grass - unless you mean by cutting out turn 8 on the back section all together ..
