we bought a crib that had a clear plastic guard across the top wood rail to help prevent gnawing i guess.....anyway when the gnawing occured her lip got pinched underneath that plastic, blood blister tears etc.... id stay away from the plastic guards if you can the gnaw marks give the crib character.

Gnawing.  Use old hoses held on by zip ties.

Wanna cover chrome.  Colored duct tape.  Look at the advantage.  You can change the crib color to match the room, green and red for Christmas, etc.

A friend of mine had her first and found she was 1. feeding all the time, 2. freaked out by every little noise. They bought this crib that attaches to the side of the bed. Needless to say, the crib came after the baby. Just a thought.
