I realize that most of y'all are guys, but most of you also have great ladies so I thought I'd ask for advice here.  Baby Kelcher is going to be here before we know it and Eric and I are having a tough time finding baby furniture we like.  Does everyone have this problem?  We're looking for solid wood stuff (it is Eric's kid, we have to make sure he/she can't gnaw through the bars).  Where did you guys get your kids' furniture?  Any tips we should know?

We lived in Dallas when Drew was born. Have you tried Baby Superstore? I think now it's called Baby's R Us.  There are a lot of wonderful furniture stores in the Dallas area. I remember going to a few in the North Dallas area near the Galleria, LBJ and the Tollway.

I went though this a year ago before our first child was born.  We had to travel 2 hrs to Des Moines to buy our baby furnature at "Baby Depot" because according to my wife there was no place local to buy good quality baby furnature.  I was amazed that there were no good local options, but we did find nice stuff (although a little pricey) at Baby Depot (www.babydepot.com).  We got a crib, changing table and dresser.

If you can, make sure what you buy can be used when they are older, (dressers, etc.) Changing tables can be a waste of money unless you plan to have a number of children. You'll find yourself changing the baby on the floor, the bed and alot of places other than that one piece of furniture. Go for a good dresser with lots of storage. Kids grow up FAST! Get a good tub, stroller and car seat though. They will get used.

Do or do not, there is no "try".

My wife says our stuff we got at Baby Depot is made by "Baby Italia".  I did not even know it but that fits into his daddy's passion for Ducatis.  That was a good start for him to follow in my footsteps.  I would not be disappointed if he liked Aprilias or MV Agusta instead of Ducati.
BTW, the changing table is made to be a dresser as well as a changing table for use after the kid is out of diapers.
Man, what have I come to?  Discussing baby funature. Shesh! :-[

hi tiff,

my first baby is due in june.

yeah i planned that well, right in the middle of the season.

anyway to get to the point,

i do not see the point in spending money on a changing table.

i'm sure you have tables, counter etc in your home.
use whats available first.

as for a tub for the baby,
ask yourself this,
how big is your kitchen sink?
think about it,
it is at a comfortable height for you,
the baby has nowhere to fall to.
i know that me and all my brothers utilised the sink when we were babies.

a crib is a must.
simple is best.
and most important, stay within your budget.
i haven't even bothered looking for a crib yet.
think i will go with something that looks like a prison cell.something good and strong.

mine (as a baby) was coated with lead paint or something.
i an 29 now, and my mother only threw the thing in the garbage last summer.
it withstood five boys who had a tendancy to try eat wood and try knock it over.

anyway, good luck. my wife knows how you feel.
eric, i know how you feel.

just my 2 cents.

Actually all we need is the crib. Brand names more than anything. We have been to Baby Depot, Babies R Us etc etc. The dresser we are not worried about I still have a couple of fingers left so I will build it. The weather here has been going crazy so I have not been able to finish the dresser for our room so I think Tiffiney is losing confidence in me to actually get anything built.  :-[

Also combo stroller car seat or seperates?

You're thinking all wrong...

Put some seat foam in this and you'd be set.

And it's mobile.  When David gets bigger, he can put all his stuff in it when he goes to college.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner the race budget is back on.   ;D

Only problem is the Kroger has gone to locking wheels on their carts if out of parking lot. Hey that is a plus just carry it in the house and baby can't move it. Now how do you paint chrome?

Quick someone delete this thread before Tiff finds out what is going on.  :o

Super_Dave has the right idea. Buy that one because after college you can use it to move the kid back home. Trust me..... I know of what I speak.
