Still goes back to insurance for tires...

Liability law suits, coverage, workmans comp, etc...

9-11 is a contributing factor for insurance companies, but additionally, insurance companies invest their money.  As the "markets" went down prior to 9-11, insurance companies had losses too...then 9-11 hits.  All adds up.

Insurance companies that had different investing practices, compared to some, had lower insurance rates before and after 9-11 and still remained profitable.  

I think the first set of radial race tires I used were Dunlop Sportmax's in 1990.  They were still like $300.  Not really much of an increase in tire price really.  Where are you feeling the big pinch?
