Speaking of my new helmet & having it painted:

I'm going to have my competition number painted on it versus stickers.  Think this will pose any issues with Tech???

Technically it should not as the rulebook only states that numbers (correct ones) be posted on all three sides of the motorcycle.  The only hassle I could see for you is if you went to another region and had to run a different number, but even then, you still would not be in any rules violation so at least in the SW region (knowing our tech folks) you shouldn't have a problem.  Contact the race director or referee of your region to be sure.

Did I miss something? Are we supposed to have our number on our helmets now?

Yep, new rule for 2004, some started late 2003, makes sense.  I forgot about it too!   :o

Just re-read the rule...  You had me scared.  It's "Chin OR Side" of helmet.  Not chin & sideS.

Yeah, I figured I might end up putting an X on now and again.  No big deal.

With custom leathers, I'd have to be quite demolished to be unrecognizable at a quick glance...

Yeah I forgot to cover that,  the number on the helmet thing is just an identifier number should you become involved in a multi bike incident or a single incident where your bike falls in a lake or is taken by aliens.  This way track crew can recognize who you are to make fun of you.  No just kidding, it is incase you are unconscious or don't know who you are we can readily get that info.  Actually a good idea.  Car racers have done this for years as well as put blood type info on their suit or helmet.  As far as number applications, I'll bet some computer savvy person on this site could make some nice custom small numbers on thier computer/printer for a samll fee, with say some of the proceeds going to the Roadracing world airfence fund?

QuoteCar racers have done this for years as well as put blood type info on their suit or helmet.

I went a little further with this.  On the pocket inside my leathers I painted the red cross symbol.  Safety pinned inside the pocket is a laminated card which has the following info:  name, birthdate, phone #, address, SSN, blood type, allergies, medications, medical provider, policy #, physician name, names & addresses & phone #s of 3 emergency contacts, type of vehicle we drove to the track, vehicle license #, trailer license #, type of race bike, and my CCS comp #.  It actually all fits on a piece of paper a little larger than a post-it note.

Basically, if I'm unconcious or get air lifted out of the track, there's enough info on me for them to know the important stuff right away.  And the pocket with the red cross symbol is easy to see when they unzip/cut off the leathers.   :o  (Hopefully that will never happen).

The rules don't state the size for the number on the helmet.  Therefore, I suggest printing on an address label (about 1 x 3 inches) your name, number, blood type and any known allergies.

I've been placing a label like this on the chin part of my helmet for a while now.  Riding on the street, you never know if you may end up unconscious  :o or incoherent  ???.

I rode with team promo for the first time in Nov and thought their idea would be a great supplement to the # on the helmet rule. You have a little 2x3 card with pretty much all the info that MZGirl mentioned, then it folds up and goes into a little pocket that has adhesive on it and is mounted on the back of your helmet.

In the 70's your AMA race licence had a microfish section of you medical history that was completed by your doctor on it, along with your picture. Leathers had a pocket just inside the zipper for your card.
I guess hospitals don't have antique microfish readers anymore but it was a good idea way back when. I wonder why it dissapeared?
Thinking of that era, to get a licence you had to get a physical every year.

How long will it be till we begin saving all of our medical history, copies of EKG's, x-rays, etc. and emergency contacts on a Compact Flash card like you use in digital cameras?  Right now you can buy one that will hold 256 mb of data for around $50.

They're not much bigger than a postage stamp and have no moving parts so they're not affected by impacts.   Now that would be High Tech!
